move 13, notes

- in my black game, I got out of book very quickly as my opponent played an unusual line. most of my play so far was to try and stop him disrupting my Q-side development too much with pawn pushes. There's a tactical point here that I won't lose my knight to the pin 14.d5 because I can just castle and he gets mated in 2 if he takes the knight.

- in my white game I thought my opponent's decision to exchange his Sicilian fianchettoed bishop to double my pawns was dubious. His king won't be comfortable so after the exchanges I decided to open lines immediately with f5,e5.

Yes, my database say that after Bg7 White scores only ~34%, which is terrible for White. I must admit I was worried about you losing your knight in the current position and it took me a while to see the mate in two threat that defends against that.
My general impression is: White has held his center together for the time being, but he needs at least 4 more moves until his development is complete whereas Black needs only one move. White's dark squared bishop isn't exactly great either. So it will be interesting to see how this game progresses. I believe White needs to be careful here, if Black manages to destroy the center at some point in the future, White could be in trouble if his king is still stuck in the middle.

I agree, the exchange was a bad decision.

I am right that 6.Bb5 was a potentially big blunder, or have a missed a line here?

Well he can always take your knight which is a check.

Seems like an ok move, why do you think it's a blunder?

@uberfish:

Why did you not take the g5 bishop on move 16? yikes I was about to congratulate you on your forceful play with a nice queen fork, but then you played Qa1. crazyeye

Why didn't white push 14. d5 in uberfish's game?

Seems at best he threw away a pawn capture for no real benefit

I was looking at this move as well, but it turns out that Black can just stay cool and castle. If White then captures the knight, he gets mated after Bc3+.

Ah you mean 6. dxe7 in your game instead of 6. Bb5?

In that case a possible line runs 6.dxe7 Qxd1+ 7. Kd1 Bxe7 8.Be3 0-0 and at least the computer says Black has full compensation for the pawn. Don't forget that White's King is permanently stuck in the center and may become a target for the rooks.
