So Gmail forces you to phone them to create a new account nowadays. I'm not going to give them my number. It's a shame, the chat function could be useful. Any way to bypass this ridicilous requirement?

Phone? Really? That's silly of Google. I created my account yesterday from the US, and didn't have this problem at all. So, Jowy, try again, and if it doesn't work, PM me? I can create an account, sending you everything you'd need to know via PM.
