Ya the fact bing has been doing well continuing to whip behind his conquest and commodore doesnt have a shot at the army just cities.

No, this is on CtH 3.x which did not include this change. It was introduced in 4.x.

In that case, he's right to not attack.   I thought from his post that he had a shot a Bing's healing stack.   Grabbing a few small border cities is doing a small injury.

Killing the GLH is though. I agree with his reasoning if he thinks it would become a losing 1v1 though.

So Pin with rifles and a functioning economy which can tech, and Commodore with Riesengardes and an economy which can't.

I don't see how Com can make this work: team up with Pin versus Bing? Commodore is the only player that has the gaurd his east flank and Pin has the better units to fight Bings mostly knight based army. Fight against Pin? Same tech level and Pin has a safe back line, and then Com has to gaurd both east and west flanks agains players who have completed conquests (taking out one city from Gav doesn't count).

Commodore needs someone else to screw up.

In a random uneven neighbor map like this you have some serious disadvantages of being in the middle as far as protecting flanks. Your advantage is you have more access to weak players or players collapsing. While Commodore got a little out of Gav he had to put A LOT of work into that, and none of his other neighbors have been weak.

Oh, I HATE Pins new marginal city. I'm willing to place cities with a whale or grassland farm as food. Literally any 3f tile, but that city gets a windmill as its best tile? I'm sure EVENTUALLY it will pay for itself, but the opportunity cost doesn't seem worth it.

It sounds like Pin has unrealistic expectations of stealing first ring sheep from Bing's city. Not something you can count on.

Yeah there's no chance he's going to steal that Sheep, in which case it's a city whose payback is ages from now. He noted he felt it would pay for itself once he got a Granary and Lighthouse after there's 2-3 cultural buildings built. All 5 of those buildings will take what, 60-80 turns with the tiles he has at his disposal? And "pay for itself" does not mean profitable per-turn, but rather profitable enough per-turn to pay for all the negative value turns. Real chance the game is called before it's profitable.
