[Spoilers]C6PBEM23: Krill sidles yonder, and probably fails

Turn 2

I'm going with hairstyles for city names. It's a dreadful theme, so someone should suggest a better one ASAP.

I still have one turn to decide if I want to go Mining first and quarry two tiles. Overflow rules might push me in that direction (two quarries = 9 turn settler, regrow to size 2 quicker). I'll probably swap next turn.

TAD still wandering.

Having thought a bit more about it I'm going to go Mining first and get the settler before growth@3 using two quarries. The builder can chill for a little bit. Doing it this way should be worth about half a monument but the cost is in the scouting and means I need to prioritise galleys (and the policy card! So hope for another continent to the west).

Turn 3

I think TAD settled this turn. Also note that I can settle a second city for both desert and tundra. There's got to be a wonder that turns all of that into usable land, right? It's already looking like western expansion is necessary as that is where the land is, it just doesn't look particularly worthwhile. But if I'm on a land bridge, well, I'm probably dead in the long run. It's going to be very difficult to get a city with a harbour (never mind coastal) to the west as an early city.

Question: If I settle a city on the lake, and then build a canal to access the ocean, could the lake city then build boats?

If the tile picker picks a stone over that turtle I'm going to wuestion how that was coded. Not that I'm bothered: I'll have to buy a tile either way, but I would prefer it to pick the northern stone as that saves me a turn on a settler, and possible quite a bit of food.

Hyperbole, but this was my first thought when I saw the western coast.

Gamer Cat = Whosit. Empire score went up one to 8. I assume that means he grew to size 2, so had a 3 food tile.

I think I'm on some bastardized equivalent of Italy.

I played the turn one hour ago and my thread is bottom of the forum. This is unacceptable.

Turn 8

OK, strategy time.

I can't figure out, at this time, what my victory condition is. It's probably something via tech into decent military units into commiting last for a war and building into an unstoppable behemoth. That's usually my sort of thing.

That means I'm going to need to get up and running. I need to get cities to size 10, I need time.

That area to the north west needs exploring, but it doesn't matter whats up there, I can't do anything about it. I need to bring the warrior back if I'm going to stick with a builder>settler play. The settler should finish eot19. If I bring the warrior back now, on T19 it should just be east of the capital (worst case scenario, a couple of two tile moves and I'll have more revealed) if I scout the FoW to the south. On a beeline through lands already scouted I shopuld get an extra three turns scouting. I'm not going to settle in the tundra for that spice, so it's not a concern for me. I'll take the beeline.

I'll need to go for a sledgehammer approach: if I rush to settle the north unsupported I'm at risk of a rush, and I'm already the best rush target, and no CS to focus on so military invest seems wasteful in the imediate future except for barb defense. I need to have actual units when I go up there. I want to go up there and push a little.

Tech path is Mining>Sailing>Pottery, but I'm mindful of wanting BW and Masonry. Civics are tighter. I should get Craftmanship around T28. I run Godking from T16 through to T28 when I swap into Agoge/UP and I want to make up the remaining 12 or so culture from Lilja. Those 10-12 turns are when I do not want to build warriors or slingers, I would rather use that window to through down the monument, the Lilja hammer/faith conversion, and whatever part of the granary I can. That is probably unrealistic, but this is only Prince. The monument should more than double culture output though. That begs the question, isn't food more important here? Should I not consider going Pottery>Sailing? Each turn I can get MH to size 3 is an extra 3 production from an improved stone, or 2p from the unimproved stone. If I'm playing "Go big or go home", it makes a lot of sense to go builder>settler>granary with this land, if I can manage the barbs, and if the east has limited space I might be able to get away with it?

I need to consider pantheons as well. I'm not convinced that any of them are great, although this might be the time to go Stone Circles (I imagine every player groaing "No Krill, you chop the stone! You play for the immediate advantage) but that isn't Yongle and I need two of the stone for IZ boost, the third is a marble.

I don't really need amenities, I have Salt, Spice, Turtles, and Marble. That's enough to get MH and other cities to size 10. Fertilitary Rites seems a bit...naff. God of the Seas might not be the stupidest idea here. I think Stone Circles works here but depending on finding more seafood to the east I'd consider what is available at the time.

Skip T9, nothing happened.

Turn 10

Tile picker chose the worst possible resource tile. Costs me 1p, but I can still get the settler built T21 80/80. I understand that production happenes before food calculation in Civ 6 (Lukrers: please correct if wrong or confirm if right) which drops the city back to size 2 with a partially filled food box, 9/24 (as would hit 24/24 on that turn, I think it drops the foodbox to 22/15, and still generates the +2 food). Either way, I'll be testing this out here.

Aside: The first GE is Imhotep, which is essentially a cheap way to knock out two or three Classical era wonders. I am currently enjoying the idea of going Stone Circles (to accumulate a fair chunk of faith), and then trying to throough faith, maybe a GE project together and use it to "buy" Petra, MoH (for the extra GE charge) so I have worthwhile tiles to work and (very unrealistically) the Colosseum.

Turn 13

Question for lurkers. Is barb scout behaviour understood from a mechanics position? This scout has triggered and will it return to the barb camp, or will it capture the builder if left in place ie it completes a quarry?
