Moctezuma looks fun. I wouldn't mind playing as him.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Actually, I really want to try out this new aggressive in general; Ragnar and Moctezuma look especially fun out of the above 4. It's too bad (but totally understandable) that the AI doesn't know any of the RBmod changes.

Start a PBEM with some variant rules then, I reckon you could probably get 4 other players involved without much difficulty.

Variant rules could be something like "Must pick a leader with one of the following traits: AGG, CHM or PRO" in a snake pick.

That's the relevant spreadsheet snippet which is easier to see. blue means kept, red means reroll, I just moved picks accepted in the first round to the second for easier copy/paste, and no one risked getting trash in the 3rd round.

The Best[b]
Serdoa: Mansa Musa of America
Plako: Ragnar of Maya
Nakor/CFCJesterfool: Wang Kon of Rome
Pindicator/scooter: Darius of Vikings
Commodore/Kurumi: Victoria of Portugal

[b]Very Good

Jowy: Pacal of India
Fintourist/Old Harry: Montezuma of Babylon

Good
Bigger/Lewwyn: Gandhi of China
suttree: Huayna Capac of Spain
mostly_harmless: Qin Shi Huang of Sumeria

The Rest
Ichabod/Wetbandit: Shaka of Greece
dtay: Alexander of Germany
retep: Sitting Bull of Khmer
Slowcheetah: Ramesses of Mongolia
Azza: Joao of Dutch
Bacchus: Suryavarman of Carthage
WilliamLP: Isabella of Inca
Yuris: Mehmed of Ottomans

That's just a quick run through, but I think everyone is at least within one level of their proper tier here. Honestly, the gaps between the best and worst here isn't even that big. Hitting the geographic lottery is way more important here.

(July 18th, 2013, 12:37)SevenSpirits Wrote: My take - I think top traits are SPI, PRO, and ORG, and rest are relatively balanced at 70-80% of the top traits' power level. I do think CHA is the worst trait by a little, and people were right to veto it heavily. Having not played with RBMod before, I could be way off on my trait evaluations. In particular, Serdoa seems to think more highly of FIN than my estimate. So take this with a grain of salt.

I will group resulting combos into three tiers:

WORST:
Ichabod/Wetbandit: Shaka of Greece
dtay: Alexander of Germany
Germany is improved in the mod, but I think not by much.
Plako: Ragnar of Maya
Jowy: Pacal of India
Remember, India has awful starting techs, which are worst on a huge (er, wow, did people seriously not vote on the map size setting???) map.
Azza: Joao of Dutch
Commodore/Kurumi: Victoria of Portugal
Very synergistic, with cheap cities, doubly cheap feitorias and stacked Feitoria/FIN boost. But I think the traits are pretty low-powered.
suttree: Huayna Capac of Spain

MIDDLING
Serdoa: Mansa Musa of America
Pindicator/scooter: Darius of Vikings
How many times has scooter had Vikings now?
Nakor/CFCJesterfool: Wang Kon of Rome
Bacchus: Suryavarman of Carthage
Carthage in the mod was buffed heavily - now they have a good UU and Cothons are cheaper, too. With the Cothon discounted by EXP, and CRE allowing a Currency beeline for cheap markets, this is another wonderfully synergistic combo.

BEST
retep: Sitting Bull of Khmer
Slowcheetah: Ramesses of Mongolia
mostly_harmless: Qin Shi Huang of Sumeria
Fintourist/Old Harry: Montezuma of Babylon
WilliamLP: Isabella of Inca
Yuris: Mehmed of Ottomans
Look at those EXP Hammams. eek
Bigger/Lewwyn: Gandhi of China

Need to compare and contrast these two...

Yeah,I was very intrigued with the first two ranking analyses being quite different.

I think part of it is traits and civs are a lot closer, so it's harder for different people to reach a consensus.
