I'm now back in PA after an excellent 8 hour flight followed by a 4 hour drive. Good shit.
Anyway I think what happened now was that a warrior was probably blocking a tile that I was using (that gave me the requisite hammers) and the governor reassigned it to one of my seafood tiles, leaving me a hammer short. Assigning a different tile, or putting the governor on 'focus production would've solved this.
I did have a settler I could emergency plant, and it might not be the most 'cripple' start, given that I had no buildings and already had a worker, but I would have to emergency settle and wait for borders to pop, all for a single cow tile that would be pressured by boak's two warriors.
I sent the settler in the wrong direction anyway, I should've just sent it towards the copper plant. I wanted to get GLH so it would've taken awhile to get another settler, and in the face of boak's aggression it makes more sense just to have metal available instantly.
