Actually, I'm now wondering if Rome ever told anyone they had a NAP with Korea and mentioned the terms or end date. I honestly don't know if they did or not, and it's more research than I want to do at present... If he didn't ever mention it to anyone, then he COULD try to lie and say he didn't have a NAP, and say that Korea is just being spiteful, trying to poison everyone against him. Korea could, of course, forward the emails from Rome showing that they DID (unless this violates some rule or other, like the before paper one? Again, more research.) Rome could, of course, claim they were forgeries... Odds of him being believed are very small, but, yes, he could try... Failing at this sort of thing might make people trust him even less, though...
So basically Rome is in the same boat diplo wise as the Incas and the Ottomans in declaring war. i don't think it will hurt Whosit diplo wise in the long run.... didn't everyone expect an aggresive Rome to go to war early.

Expecting Rome to war, sure. It's not the war declaration that is the issue. Breaking a NAP, is likely to be severely frowned upon by pretty much everyone. Certainly more frowned upon than what IKZ did, where they never made any pretense about being friendly to Mortius.
While there are teams out there who won't trust the Ottomans much either, since they for sure engaged in a good deal of subterfuge, they didn't break a treaty and that counts for something to most folks. Whosit is in the worst diplomatic position if people believe he broke a NAP. Breaking your word on a treaty is going to be a much harder thing to overcome in the eyes of most people than what either of the other teams did. Again, though, it's a long game, and stranger things have happened...

I agree, that's rather counter productive in the long run. I think he was trying to achieve surprise but instead only acheived early warning. -_-' You want to achieve speed and violence of action in surprise attacks to quickly overwhelm the enemy.
The East part of this map is getting so slowed down by these wars except for IKZ.
I don't think anyone has mentioned this yet but IKZ basically have free reign of all of Former Mortistan with no real threat of war from either direction due to their neighbors being occupied. Look at their traits as well:
Expansive and Organized...
Sheesh. Correct me if I'm wrong but they should really take advantage of the situation and expand everywhere, they have the ability to do so and advantages in settler and worker production.

Rome is really screwed with his crazy decision. He cannot take the city as there will two warriors. It will be funny if he makes peace with Korea. Same thing happened to Ruff in PB1. I think he should declare cease of hostilities and let Korea capture their worker. He should not take peace, but should not attack till NAP expires. This way, Rome will at least have Ottomans as ally.
Edit: Just saw this:

I will be willing to call for a cease fire, and will return their Worker (as a gift, if possible, otherwise I will let them recapture it) as an act of good faith. I am not sure what sort of a longer-term agreement would be suitable to the both of us. I do have some concerns over the territory to my north, however.

That is a terrible decision: he's already ruined his rep with the NAP-break, so he'd have been much better off pressing on. In this game where land is relatively scarce, we're going to see quite a few broken promises...

Yeah, well, at least he'll salvage some credibility for future games.
EDIT: The funny thing is, reading his spoiler thread, Whosit really seems like a nice guy. Just . . . whimsical, I guess

Atleast he will have ottomans on his side. I think that should be enough for this game....

Be interested to see the situation roll out wrt Spulla/Jowy/Dantski - strong playing fast expanding team vs 2 teams with apt. UUs - that's an interesting match! I guess any serious buildup would be picked up by the C&D stuff?
The whole world really is heating up! Wonder if they'll all blow each other to pieces before anyone hops onto a (lovingly made!) island?

Well, welcome to the Realms Beyond the Twilight Zone. I don't know how else to describe the events of the last 12ish hours.
I'm really not sure how badly this will damage him diplomatically going forward to be honest. If I was in a diplomatic situation with him now, I might be MORE inclined to believe him actually, at least in the short term, figuring that he'd be extremely wary about doing anything else that would set him up as public enemy number one.
What a really bizarre game so far.
