Heh, if you aren't a fan of the spamming in Scoopin's thread here by all means stay away from the ISDG subforum until we're dead or we finish the quest for 666 pages in the game thread. It's spamtastic right now.

Looking at the Babylon thread, I am curious why didn't build walls in threatened cities, they don't add to unit costs and they either buy more time to react or increase the potency of the defenders when an expected attack comes.

Also, in what is seeming to be traditional RB fashion, none of the civs that could be considered frontrunners think that they have ay chance to win this game.

Well, tbh most of them think their all running out of room to expand and don't think so for their competitors, they don't have the same information as we do.

Or they think that other rivals may have tastier treats to eat. Mack may end up with a couple of wonders for his trouble, whereas Scoopin have some gristle to chew if they want to eat any neighbors right now. I guess when people really get tight on decent land to settle the blood may start running and we'll need ponchos to stay dry.

Speaker is a really good MP player, and has a great understanding of warfare, but in no way is that land awful. The reason Plako isn't at the top of the demographics chart is because he invested so many hammers into wonders that don't give upfront advantages, rather than into settlers and workers like other players did. On top of that, he spent resources on a war that gave him no immediate benefit (ie captured cities), only a weakening neighbour that he could then outgrow over the following 50 turns.

We really should evaluate the game by how poorly the top players think they are doing. The more they bemoan the position, the better it actually is.
This game is interesting at the moment. Since slow doesn't report much, we don't really know how much he intends to invest vs. dtay. I'm guessing he'll settle for razing this city and call it a day. If Commodore is happy to roleplay/sandbox in his corner of the world above 70 degrees N, Scooticator are in decent shape and can continue to expand to all of the islands. Depending on what happens with Lew to his south, they may be in very good position soon. But mackoti is going to make an easy snack of m_h and own the Colossus very soon, so despite his lackluster prediction, he's in very good shape. And plako has sandbagged his position by taking MoM. It's done absolutely nothing for him yet, at the cost of expansion. But, he'll get plenty of use from it down the road, so his position is better than it appears by far. Krill has that right. He's just made investments so far, in wonders and fighting his neighbor, and not really taken any profits. He'll get to cash out on those investments to realize benefit soonish.
I'm not caught up on Fintourist, Lew, or WilliamLP's threads, so I don't know how those pieces fit in to the overall picture. Are any of these guys contenders? I'm guessing Lew has some options but again, haven't read his thread yet.

Lewwyn would still have a chance if his empire bordered, oh idunno, mostly_harmless instead of Scoopin and Azza. As it is, his chances are near zero.
Agree with Krill re:Plako, but none of it matters because mostly_harmless has set the tide in Mackoti's favor.
