RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

I'd have thought the attack preparations should really show on the power chart - and speaker/sullas reading of those charts seems very decent?

I wonder if the attack happens, whether it will just end up as an opportunity for 'spulla' to grab some cities whilst playing the 'they started it' card and keeping a clean reputation?

On the other hand, getting attacked from 2 sides by players with Ancient UUs should give anyone a mental workout? smile

On another point, I do feel rather sorry for Rego and the abuse/reputation he's getting. Personally, don't think what he did was worse than suprise ganking Imperio in the Apolyton game?

I can see Spullla easily winning on defense. I can't see them then out growing and winning easily though.

Yeah, I think that the most Jowy & Dantski will achieve is slowing Spulla down at considerable cost to themselves. That said, they're caught between a rock and a hard place because going the peaceful route might just make them grassland caretakers. At worst, they'll put together poorly composed stacks and get an MP lesson from Speaker.

The only way I can see 'Spulla' getting surprise is if Greece manages to get a HA army from nowhere by borrowing it from Athlete+kalin once they finish their war.

@Jabah, I agree, and I think it's a little optimistic to think that Athlete and Kalin are going to be able to finish off Rego & Co anytime soon.

I think one of the most interesting thinkgs to make predictions about is which teams will work together. Will there be anyone that wants to join Spulla b/c of their dominate position? Or will they unite against? Or stay divided and fall?

I don't think that Dantski really has much of a chance in this game. His leader/civ choice just isn't that strong. Jowy's financial and expansive on the other hand atleast gives hims a chance against Spullla.

Really, I don't think it would benefit either one of them to attack Spullla right now. Sure they'll slow down their growth but it'd only be marginally at the sacrifice of each one of their games. I would try and squeeze Spullla in. The fast worker is only as good as the amount of land they can get up and running. The less land they get, the less useful they are. You do this, and attack later on when you are out of the initial growth stage.

PS. I dunno, I think that HRE is somewhat antzy about Spullla. Maybe a triple alliance would work?

Spulla will certainly suffer a bit as a result of their reputations as good players, but I don't think HRE would want to get too involved given the distance. If anything, Spulla could convince them to go after Dantski (NAP or not).

Spulla is way ahead on tech-rate, so the time to attack is now, and the best chance Jowy & Dantski have, as I see it, is for a one-two combo of the telegraphed one-move stack coming from one direction then, Spulla having whipped down to defend and counter, a two-move stack surprises from the other side.

True, though I'm not sure I'd bet on the coordination that would require taking place.

And, man, it's a slow day at work...

I don't think that an axeman and some hoplites are going to do much though :-(.

Jowy is extremely far away from Spullla at any rate. I forsee them holding off Jowy and eating Dantski alive. Then there's the issue of coordination and planning which I hope they don't but won't be surprised if they screw up on giving the distances involved.

Oh well, if Dantski signs open borders, then he'll be able to get a good look at all the workers he doesn't have lol.

The only reason it is in Athlete and Kalin's best interests to keep going in this war after Paris was succesfully taken, instead of consolidating and returning to builder mode, is because Byzantine have made it their business to screw over the Ottomans for the rest of the game at the expense of any chance of winning of their own and hence the Ottomans need to get a complete kill.

But maybe if Byzantine were willing to give up their petulance over losing their agggresive city and convince Athlete/Kalin that they won't embark on a ruthless vendetta, maybe they could convince them to leave them alone and get out of this choke. That's the only way I see them getting out of this situation and into one where they may be in some way competitive later in the game.
