Ah sorry missed that question. Its cylindrical. Big and small doesn't even have option for toroidal.

In the vanilla release (1.00) horses were visible from T0, as they had no tech requirement. This promptly led ladder players to pick Egypt, wander until they found horse, settle on horse and build WC and rush players off the map with no counter.
In the first patch (1.09) horses were changed to require AH before being made visible. Given this was 18 years ago, no wonder people forget what happened.

Thanks Mjmd, I'll go back to being confused about their scouting route.
Oh hey Krill, thanks for my daily reminder that "oh god I'm fucking old now!"

After some creative micromanaging spreadsheetery, I think I can deliver the following plan over the next ~15turns:
Warrior EoT20
Warrior EoT23
Settler EoT30
Bronze Working EoT31
Revolt Turn32
City2 Settling T33?
Getting BW EoT 31 requires pulling a few extra commerce by working "worse" tiles, but I think it's worthwhile for the guaranteed Slavery revolt in-transit, and getting Copper revealed a turn earlier to influence the Settler direction.

Second Warrior popped and Settler started. Here's what Elwood has found so far to the South:
Not sure how I feel about wading through that Jungle, or if now is the time to turn back and see if there's nicer terrain to the SE.
You can also see I'm working the coast for 1t instead of the river Cow, trading 2f for the extra 1c. I'll also trade off 1t of the plains Cow after the Settler pops to get the other 1c I need to get BW EoT31.

Second Cow online:
Worker will Mine next, which completes as the city reaches size 4 after the Settler.

RIP Elwood.
I've been thinking more about settling (pic from last turn - see Elwood's last stand at the bottom)
Seeing more of the South is making me more interested in eventually settling a canal city between the Cow and Horses, which would need me to move the 1 location from the previous dotmap North into that open plains slot. The biggest disadvantage is that location doesn't grab any new resources first-ring, but maybe working the Corn and chopping the 5 forests will put it to enough use as a staging area. Long-term it'll be a piddly filler of a city, but can help grow cottages for the surrounds. I don't think that pushing straight to the Pig/Corn or Cow/Horse spots first is the best move, but Copper could change my mind.

Well I may not have popped any tech or Workers from a hut like some, but this is incredibly timely and well-placed:
I was about to switch off that tile for a turn to finish BW so immediate gain is 1f 3h, but since I'm just about guaranteed to always be working that tile, the addition commerce will really add up over the game.
Also - due to careful adjective planning earlier - the news report is pretty good too

generally, I am not impressed by that event, but that early on a permanent tile... not bad at all.
