TheMusicMan Wrote:ok ill build research then. nothing else will be built in time

Build a warrior and upgrade him. Not like replaceable parts is useful.

If someone decides to wipe you out, make every step they take as bloody as possible.

Musicman screwed up his defence and got stomped by Slowcheetah.

Music was in a strong position earlier but he really needs a good guide to using military. He kept getting defeated in detail and isn't responding properly to getting attacked.

He wasn't really in a strong position. He was good for the first 50 turns or so then went way off the rails doing things like researching Liberalism without getting the bonus tech before he had Currency. And he went into anarchy like five times to swap into civics like Serfdom at the rate of one anarchy turn per civic.

Then he got attacked and basically didn't respond at all other than to build a couple pikes or something to defend against cannons and janissaries. Well, his response was to give away all his cities to everyone else in the game.

Oh and you can't build warriors after Gunpowder.

Sez he can smile

But yeah, Music still needs a bit of mentor. Especially the ability to grasp the macro and read the flow of the game.

I think that in many ways, he is still very new to high-level play, even high-level sandbox play. For example, in PBEM 41
He forgot about chopping out terraces and instead slow-built and whipped them out. I was so confused about why he was falling behind the expansion curve until Catwalk pointed out that he hadn't been chopping (I don't actually have the password to the save, I've just been giving advice based on the thread).
and in this game he obviously got distracted really easily. That being said, he's definitely playing better in PBEM 41 than he is here, so he's probably improving pretty rapidly.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

He played his opening fine here for the most part.
