Hmm. I bet you took many less words to do that than I did. wink

Agreed with this and everything in this post really. I don't like how so many games end with a clear winner and (especially if the player is not well-liked) then a list of reasons from the losers why the clear winner got lucky. People vastly underrate how important the metagame is against humans. Usually the "lucky win" type statements just show an ignorance/stubbornness about mistakes made. Humans aren't AIs - they hold grudges and have very clear memories and perceptions, even in a "no diplo" game like this. The game you guys have played is the only one that I haven't seen totally bizarre meta decisions. Commodore's game is the most defensible out of everyone else's, but I agree with your assessment of his undoing.

WTF is Yuri's goodbye post!? Totally agree with you Gaspar. Honestly, I thought either Comm or Mistibod would come out on top, but they're the ones who basically committed macro suicide. And there's nothing wrong with that (:neenernee), but don't use it against others to say their win may have been less worthy. NobleGas kept chugging along even when hoped seemed to be out of reach and eventually capitalized when opportunity presented itself. Classic Tortoise Win (if the win is won in the end shhh).

Played turn 140.

Bad news in the event log.

Well, we don't really care that davy swapped to Nationhood, but Commodore finished Kremlin in his capital (expected) and also got a GE (possibility considered). Interestingly he did not build Kremlin in Oasis where his other wonders are and his NE is. So I guess the wonder's security is more important than the GPP stacking.

Anyhow Commodore is now teching Railroad which I considered a couple turns ago as a possibility. Obviously he wants Machine Guns for defense. Assuming he doesn't swap techs next turn it does mean that it'll be a while before he gets to Assembly Line and can thus rush the Pentagon. His GA should run out shortly after he finishes Railroad. Also, there is a nontrivial amount of hammers remaining to finish the thing even with the GE rush. Anyway, with the GE threat I told Gaspar that I wanted to build a Monument in the capital to maximize overflow this turn into a Factory next turn, at which point he promptly fainted and had to be carried to a Boston hospital. No, just kidding, but he did flatly refuse to agree with the build. Then I suggested a Pavilion which is 6 fewer hammers of overflow, and with great help from pindicator toast we are fairly certain that we'll be able to finish the wonder on the same turn as a Monument build (details will vary because we may swap to Theocracy or whatever).

Anyhow, as the log states, we finished an Infantry in Caldeum this turn (<3 HE) and can probably do one every turn for quite a while, since we'll start another GA next turn.

Finally finished some badly needed Courthouses. We're also shifting units out from yuris's old lands of course.

Two quick points:

I expect Noble to pay my medical bills.
I expect Commodore to use that GE on Mining, Inc.

So, turn 141.

What we also did last turn was prepare for an attack on Commodore. Why attack now? I'm not totally sure it's wise, but we have a window here because:

1. Commodore does not have Railroad yet, so no super fast movement or Machine Guns.
2. Commodore's power is a lot lower than ours, and we have freed up units now.
3. Most importantly, we have great vision behind the border and can see that he really doesn't have that many units at our point of attack. He's got his big stack in the new border city of Callix, which is crucially four tiles away.

The downside here is that we'll probably need to build more units instead of building Factories everywhere.

Anyway, where is our point of attack, you ask? Well, it's our dear old friend Pink Dot.

And for good measure, we can raze Aylee which is now a mature and decent city. (Its lack of food doesn't matter when it doesn't need to grow.)

First order of business though is using our shiny new Infantry and occupying that hill near Callix. Hopefully this will tie some of his units down in the south.

Infantry vs Fortified G2 Musketman at 75.9%: WIN and down to 6.4. Wins 3 experience and promotes to C2/Pinch. Too bad we can't attack again because a Cannon is showing as top defender in Callix now. lol

Second Invasion of Aylee:
C1 CKN vs G2 Rifleman at < 0.1%: LOSS, no damage frown
C1 CKN vs G2 Rifleman at < 0.1%: LOSS, Rifleman down to 11.5
C1 CKN vs G2 Rifleman at < 0.1%: LOSS, Rifleman down to 7.3
C1 CKN vs G2 Rifleman at 1.6%: WIN! lol Gains 10 experience, survives at 1.7
C1 Rifleman vs CG2 Longbowman at 80.2%: WIN, survives at 6.0
C1 Rifleman vs G1 Longbowman at 84%: LOSS banghead, Longbow down to 1.8
C2 CKN vs Longbowman at 97.9%: WIN, no damage
C1 CKN vs C1 Axeman at 93.6%: WIN, no damage

Aylee is once again razed, and we gain a GG in Alcarnus.

That's it for now. I need to sleep. We'll finish the turn at some point tomorrow.

I think this sums up the rest of the turn:

That's 38 units outside Kiki. I promoted 9 of the Riflemen, I think that's a good number since that's the number of noncrappy and nonsiege defenders in Kiki. I guess we should have promoted one more since Kiki will produce a new defender for sure next turn. We moved 4 CKNs and the Pikeman from the Copper stack into Cathedral. We're probably not doing that Factory in Alcarnus even though it's queued up. Unless Commodore offers us Kiki for peace this turn. lol (We probably should have offered that before ending turn actually.)

You can also see the requisite Gaspar-move-that-Noble-is-not-happy-with, namely the moving of the Spy into Mosp to reveal all of one additional tile. That grass mine must be really important. wink We lost the other Spy at start of turn, which is really annoying.

Anyway it just occurred to me that Commodore may think up the brilliant and creative idea of using his OB with Mist to attack our yuris conquests, so we should strengthen our defenses there a bit. Maybe move some of the Caldeum Riflemen there.

Oh and I did start our three-man GA.

Do you have workers to come and road that tile you put all of your units on? Because you could have simply put all your units on the road NE of Kiki. Not sure why you didn't do that since you'll likely culturally take the tiles when you take Kiki.
