You may be slightly behind but more or less left alone to develop the continent. Lots of cities at least

Have always wondered but never asked why you shorten Destroyers this way.

DD = Naval abbreviation for Destroyers.
similarly,
FF = Frigate
CA = Armoured cruiser
CL = Light cruiser
etc.

yeah, I learned this in a gaming report of UA dreadnoughts smile

Well all that may be true, but I learnt it during the PTWDG over at Apolyton in 2004 and never looked back nod

I know RB MP history starts with the Apolyton demogame of 2009, but the real history winds back further. In fact that game probably deserves a couple of pages in the history of the development of the CIV franchise because of how it shaped CIV

Spamming the settlers was always the right move from an economic perspective, the issue was more if anyone would call me on it, and I had limited geographic knowledge back then (I didn't know Commodore was off that coast) hence that it was right to consider it a gambit.

As it is I'm roughly equal with Thoth in cities, but his UB is essentially a slightly more flexible version than mine (but has a lower ceiling due to using a specialist slot, but the Seowon doesn't. But he has SoL on his mainland, and half his cities are on subcontinents. He is up in tech and has Creative Construction so he has a real shot at a culture victory (plus I'm not going to contest that). Both of us need Commodores naval capacity wrecked, so we have no reason to defect (in a prisoners dilemma sense) until that is dealt with.

We can both keep an eye on our respective coastlines so we can easily manage any trust issues, and as it's only a two party dog pile on our side I think we will keep this up for as long as we need. Thoth can commit to a space victory and he'll beat me, unless I land Cereal Mills. At that point it's a bit closer but I think I still lose.

Commodore is playing for a Domination victory. Get enough power to hold off us two, eat Yuri, force us to cover multiple fronts, shift his power around, eat Pindi, win via concession. We stop that by stripping him of naval build queues, then Thoth can interdict around PIndi (and likely takes those cities for himself) and then could win by space, or a culture victory (with limited naval build queues, if he can keep Commodore bottled up on that continent, then it's a straight race with limited interference). His other way is to try and fork a bunch of cities north of my capital, but realistically I should be able to whip and build enough DD to cover that. That's probably the one thing I'm fairly sure of, because all but two of my cities are coastal I should be able to hold the water.

I can't keep up with Thoth so I don't see a way to win short of defecting, but I can't manage both Thoth and Commodore from a militaristic point of view, so there's no point in trying (it's just kingmaking, I'm happy to sit in my corner of the map and keep the tech pace up as the back marker). Thoth could play for domination but short of a commando raid opening up an alphastrike with a misplaced stack (commando raid on the scale of PB18 FinHarry against Pindicator) it would be a total bloodbath.

I think I've always been in a hole this game, and I skipped cottages to make it work. I could have built a few more at the starting area (talking about 10 for context) but this would have involved chopping into more settlers and workers and I would have hit a brick wall moving into the jungle. Could have worked, but then my MFG would be even worse than it is now, which is dreadful.

The problem with playing with Commodore is just how well we understand each others game. Unfortunately Yuri seems not to have seen this coming.

So as lurkers know, Commodore invaded Yuri, and he is rolling him up along the southern edge of the map. Bad for me because that gives another front to deal with, good for Commodore as more yields and pressure to exert for no extra cost. I think we're close to the end here.

That said, Thoth got Cereal Mills, and I'm wondering if it's worth spreading to a couple of cities. It'll cost me up front gold, but I'm resolutely refusing to leave slavery and Nationalism so I can turn the food into production, gold to cover the costs and beakers. I'll also have to deal with health implications, but that's manged with harbours and grocers well enough. The other side is that I'm feeding gold to Thoth (in second place) and not Commodore, so is this really a problem?
