I wonder if Plako will change tack and try to nab stuff from Bigger and maybe Bacchus. I doubt it, but he will likely consider it.

They won't lose much to wreck Bacchus (and they'll get XP plus city capture gold and pillage gold if they want it), but they will be spending their turns attacking someone who won't really help them win the game versus attacking elsewhere, which could be somewhere that does help them win the game. Given the choice between attacking for gold or attacking for land, attacking for land is the better purely game/victory condition based option. But there's the human element. Really, Bacchus should be whacked with a stick for poking at them earlier. And that's the direction I hope they go.

He observed Viking ships "lined up in the shipping lanes" or some similar wording. From his perspective, how could he think anything other than they may be gunning for him? A not-so-subtle reminder that he's technologically relevant and not asleep at the switch seems like a fine means of dissuading potential Viking adventuring. Rifles are totally the right move for Commodore here, even though Vikings will be tooling around with grens. 
Grens only work on offence. Then again, if upgraded from zerks, Vikings have a window of opportunity to turn off the slider and break things that no one else can really match.
Not that they need to turn the slider off for more than 2 turns to that.
Right. I don't think Com has any notion of back footing the Vikings and taking the fight to them with his fancy rifles. I'm say ing even on defense the drafted rifles are his best option, hammer wise and probably outright winning, against amphibious grens. Grens are +25% vs. rifles, right?
Well looking at it Grens get a 50% boost, though if Com flashes some rifles it will show that he is pretty close to Cav's, the counter to Grens.
