PB5 also used full tech trading. IIRC only after players got paper and started to trade techs, tech pace has become exceptionally fast.

TT only enabled after Paper; prior to that tech rate was on par with other NTT games, as were the individual teams breakeven bpt. Map quality is not such a large factor, although map type obviously is and the majority of games are on more specific map types.

Now I do feel that player skill has improved to the extent that the tech differential between leading players is not often that bad any more, but the tech pace itself has, if anything, gotten even faster.
I think at has a lot to do with the fact that land on this hand-made maps is typically much better than BTS map generator usually gives. In SP most of cities I was able to settle in PB16 would be just outstanding but on that map they were meh cities.
For the record, the "hand-made"-ness of this map was copy/pasting a few continents from different maps together, I didn't make very substantial hand edits or fill anything in by hand.

So every capital was a 3 food capital?
Other than that, yeah, it was copy/pasting, so the insane amount of gold resources is an artifact of hte map generator.

So, what's the deadpool for the Scooter/Lewwyn battle?
The best breakdown of the theater is here.

I love how nobody thinks they are going to win this game. We're so used to having a clear winner by now, this is really foreign territory
Edit: I haven't looked at it in game, but if I were Lewwyn i would think of my knights as my "Little Doctor". Even if he has to sacrifice all his 1-movers at Timbers, if he can race ahead with those knights to get the capital that would worth any loss of units (from his stated goals, at least).

So, um, what are the odds that Lewwyn does manage to raze the capital?

Ceil, if Suttree is right, then that post in the context of scooter alienating Pindicator (who may have caught that) is absolutely above board IMO.
