Am I right that if I have a state religion, other religions present in a city will no longer give 1 cpt?
Isn't it that if you have a state religion, no other religions give culture at all?

Email to WK
Quote:Hey WK,
Been awhile since we chatted so I thought I'd drop you a note. I saw that you lost your capital :-( and I guess from my reports from some other neutral observers that things aren't going great - I also see plako's power graph and it looks pretty intimidating.
I'd actually been meaning to write for awhile now but just couldn't figure out the best way to say things, so I guess I'm just going to lay it out. Hopefully you won't hate me :-)
Basically I wanted to know what your thoughts were on this game. I know that you're a replacement player, and that sometimes a replacement player doesn't always have the same investment that an original player might have. I don't mean to say that you don't care about this game or that you're not trying - far from it! (See what I mean about not knowing quite how to say this :-) ). But what I mean is that I know that it is challenging and sometimes extremely frustrating to come into a game where you're already behind, and try to catch up. I think we both can think of an example of where I'm coming from - right? Too bad we're not allowed to talk about it ;-)
But I know from experience that when you're in such a situation, you have to play pretty risky just to have a chance of catching up. Playing conservatively when you're already behind is a surefire recipe to just stay behind. You appear to share the same philosophy judging on how you have played since taking over Greece. IMO it's the only way to approach things. Sometimes the risks pay off, but lots of times they don't, and at least in that case you're likely to not have that long to worry about it ;-)
In any case, in this game, it would be my preference that you survive a long time and make headway against plako. That's why we shared the intel that we had at the onset of the war and would have continued to do so should plako have tried to march any of his units past Bob's Fork into your backlines (which he has not). It is unfortunate that as one of the weaker powers ourselves, we have not really been able to provide more support.
So that's our first choice, but if that can't happen (and I think you'd agree it's looking dim), sunrise pointed out that as one of plako's neighbors, we really can't afford to have him have twice the land of everyone else. He's already way ahead of everyone (at least everyone besides LP) and with twice the land he'd probably be unstoppable due to the snowball effect.
So that brings us to where we are. I'm just going to lay out our options and opinions and see if we can figure out what to do. I don't know how much you care at this point whether or not plako takes all your lands. Or maybe it's something in the Greek spirit that hates smiley faces and such :-). I don't think we could accept you gifting us your cities, even if that's something you'd want to do - it doesn't feel "right" and plus it would probably just make plako declare on us anyways.
But one thought I had, and I don't know if it's something you'd go for would be if we declared war on you also. Obviously if you feel like you can mount a defense against plako's stack (and you very well may be able to - the only thing I can figure out is from what other people tell me and what I see on CivStats) then I wouldn't want to do that. But if you feel that it's just a matter of time for you, we could at least keep the northern peninsula (Knossos / Mycenae / etc) out of Emoticonfederate hands. We don't have a huge army, but if most or all of your units are on your plako border then it might work. We'd definitely go on your lead as far as timing.
Again, I know this is a long email, and I don't want it to seem like I'm just asking you to give us all your cities, even though I know it might read like that :-(. It's one of the reasons that it's taken me so long to write. If you decline and want to make whatever stand you feel will work, then I understand. I'm just trying to figure out a way that we can stop this game from essentially being over this early (a la PB2)
I should be around off and on by chat for the rest of the weekend

So I have no idea if this will work. I would think that it has pretty low odds of doing so. A lot depends on the plako/WK relationship.
The ideal situation (which again, has very low odds of actually working) would be for WK to agree to something like this (where he vacates Knossos and Mycenae at some point), while simultaneously plako agrees for us to come in to the war on his side to take down WK.

In other news, we founded another city
I thought long and hard about where to settle (where I did or either of the two tiles north). I believe that fish is Lord Parkin's (at least he thinks it is). But Krill would be so proud that I didn't ask him about it before I settled
The northern crab is going to belong to a silver city in my north. So I wanted to keep both grass hills as well as both forests.

We will found 2 more cities next turn. Plan is to revolt to OR and HR shortly, as well as to Buddhism.
Obviously one benefit of OR is being able to build missionaries w/o Monasteries that we are not close to being able to have (no Meditation and much better things to build). The other one is the 25% building bonus. The big building is Moai Statues, which you can see behind the interface in the pic above. I have one forest that can chop into it as well as some worker overflow, and I'd prefer the 25% on both of those.
The other problem is that I have 2 cities that need border expansions that have other religions (1 Judaism and 1 Christianity). So I feel like I need to wait till those borders pop into the BFC before revolting.

Of the cities with (non-Buddhist) religion, the important ones are Madison (6/10 culture currently) and River (3/10). Montgomery already has expanded borders.
I also have one other Buddhist missionary (the first one from my trade with Adlain spread to Delta this turn) - my thought had been to spread it to the capital of Vine to allow it to build missionaries as it grows back from worker/settler whips
