[Spoilers - Flauros (sunrise089 and darrelljs)]

This game is essentially over frown.

My counter-attack destroyed Amelia's HA stack. I moved in the Morr'ta'nar stack and apparently between Tsunami and Raging Seas its dead. I did not realize Raging Seas could actually kill units rolleye. I could stand to lose 25 Vampires and still have a shot against uberfish, but 50?

Ouch. Well I guess we can contribute to the cautionary tale that is late-game offensive warring in FFH (see FFH1's version of Calabim).

Yeah, I guess. Maybe uberfish will also make a sequence of blunders bang. One can always hope.

Well, we've seen the vampires freeze.

And we've seen them drown.

Next game, let's try a combination of both. A frozen tidal wave.

A frozen tidal wave would only be dangerous to vampires on ships. lol

My vote is that someone make a 5 page sulllaesque writeup of this game for us who haven't been lurking.

From our point of view:

1) Early dice rolls matter. Ours gave us 2 units which prevented a super early rush from anyone except the Doviello (and they weren't our neighbors). We'd have rather got the free great people the other civs popped of course wink

2) Fin aristofarms are strong.

3) The recipe for success as the vamps' neighbor is not a) try to steal cities for cheap (Loki), b) ask for help in a war, c) complain when we send the promised number of units and they arrive on time, d) participate in a multi-civ plot against us, e) then ask for peace.

4) Midgame snowball due to high production. Uberfish snowballs too with a higher ceiling.

5) Diplo necessitates us taking out Amelia and not sandbagging it.

6) We're on track to pull this off, but it's a Pyrrhic victory and we have no chance of stopping Uberfish's tower, so we concede.

Honestly we didn't have any amazing plays. We played Aristofarms properly and chose the right vamp leader, and the first few turns of the Clown war were planned out properly to hit hard and fast, and finally darrell did some good number crunching on vamp production lategame. Other than that I don't think anything we did is worthy of a big retrospective.

Stopping Uberfish's tower wasn't really the problem, he'd already agreed not to start building it or spend or stockpile any money for it until after the T200 NAP ended. Fighting his large and powerful endgame army with a much diminished vampire force would have been the main problem. I'm not sure how much of his thread you've read, but he had a very impressive end game military kicking into gear, including 2 Mage mass production sites, Rathas and Mithril champions built and drafted across the empire, all backed up by Beastmasters, Druids, Archmages, Werewolves and Chalid... It would have been a tough fight even without suffering heavy military losses fighting Amelia.

I actually think this was one of the biggest mistakes. Choosing the axemen was a bad decision. Lizards are hunter type mobs meaning a) you can get hawks out faster (you did get hunting for free!) for insane early scouting. b) you can capture animals meaning that your initial two free units escalates into many free units for either an army or happiness via animal cages. That extra military score then means you can get more favourable settling agreements etc etc.

Axemen have some advantages but i, personally, think they're far inferior to Lizardmen.
