What kinds of games should we run?

If you are on board I just need to seduce an elite player to our cause by promissing brazilian beauties (if you know what I mean :kisskiss as a reward and we are good to go. The elite player could play the turns and I and darrell coul do the trolling... I mean, diplomacy.

The idea I was tossing around was something like

* 4-5 players.
* CTON AW
* Leaders and Civs chosen by the lurkers / mapmakers. We're talkin Tokugawa of Celtia, Charlemagne of America, etc. If the mapmaker makes a mostly land map then Portugal is in play, etc.
* Players roughly equal in skill, though if there are slight variations in perceived skill, it could be balanced with the leader / civ they're assigned. I don't think we want it TOO disparate though - no newbs playing Willem of India
* All players must have a high PYFT rating. Please provide references
* Fairly harsh map - arid highlands, or great plains without all the cows, maybe? Nothing too blatant about map editing - just making things mostly fair between players
* Don't want to be RIGHT on top of each other but not a big buildfest either - we can only put SO MANY non river non FIN cottages down .
* Immortal / Deity / Toroidal Though we are trying to provide a challenge but not make it TOO unfun, so generally up to the mapmaker / lurker committee.
* Pyramids / GLH banned

I think GLH is banned by default on a Great Plains map.

If you guys would come back to reality and abandon that abortion of an ISDG, you could start a demogame here. There are 80 players hanging around, enough for 5 teams and more than a dozen players on each team. I think the only thing that would need a soft rule would be no more than 2 "elites" per team, and I think we all know exactly what I mean by that (*cough, no stacking teams, *cough*)

And guess what, no need for any mods at all. That would actually be a pretty fun game, if you'd actually accept new players instead of locking the fora, hellbent on realising your paranoia.

I don't know why anyone even wants to play that anymore considering Sommer is basically dictating the settings. That's just beyond ridiculous. There's a big difference between "we'll deal with the settings since apparently people want them" and "the settings are forced upon us by one guy who refuses to shut up and nobody else cares enough."

Why? Great Plains includes a single good-sized ocean taking up the entire SE corner of the map, enough for a dozen coastal cities on a large map.

GLH would be hardly unbalanced without islands and with AW, though it would mean an unequal share of the land and sea access.

But isn't it supposed to be fully watermilled?

Hopefully real life will take a different approach from Civ in that matter.


What I'd really like to see is a pitboss with the elite players of the site. But that's just my egoistical desire and probably doesn't work for the parties that would be involved. But one can dream, right?
