Actually I changed my philosophy on calling games early sometime during PB7. I learned it's very easy to have fun even while knowing you won't win. I mean if no one's enjoying it anymore, sure, call it. But having a clear leader is no longer a reason for me on its own.
(P.S. I don't think it's that decided yet anyway. And I certainly don't think it was before the game started. The basic fact that it's a free-for-all prevents that!)

Not an inspiring amount of guesswork. For that you earned no pictures, but the knowledge that I advanced against Scooter, revolted to HR/Slavery/Theo, teched HBR on the way to Cuirassiers, visibly declined to attack Pindicator (by unloading the chariot onto a different tile) (a large part of the reason for attacking there was the XP towards the general to enable the Heroic Epic, but with Dazed's invasion that's not a concern anymore), and am obviously building a bunch of units (mostly praets) to defend against Dazed. I plan to demonstrate why I picked Rome.
Turn after, I traded a few boats with scooter to get a great general and moved him towards the Dazed front.

Hardly any. I did immediately slave out a longbow in Coppersmith and thus got a unit every turn there for a few turns. More importantly though it allows me to lighten garrisons in cities near other players to funnel more units towards the Dazed incursion.
It's true that in my previous state (able to revolt on almost any turn) I get the same safety net. However, it was clearly expedient to have 2xp everywhere for a couple reasons (secondary one being it gives me an advantage in the great trireme scuffle with scooter) as well as very productive to get an extra 2 units out of Coppersmith immediately. Plus, the following turn was going to be no-revolt due to the golden age lapse, so it was a bit dangerous to delay the revolt given my unit repositioning.
The loss was caste system, which as I mentioned was being used to hire 3-4 extra scientists in my national epic city. So it's annoying, but not devastating, to have to give that up.
