Rome/Azza planted his cities too far apart and got killed by Cornflakes/Q for it via impis and galleys.

Meh, I saw that, the city plants weren't really his fault: I'd have planted the cities where he did.

Q's messing with Cornflakes queues, possibly in order to cheat the culture bug, then backfiring and causing chops to go into a courthouse instead of Taj was rather impressive, even if not on the same scale.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Actually, yeah, that was pretty impressively hilarious. I'm not sure if anyone on a team with Q should ever give him the keys on a PB.

But the recovery was more impressive. Gifting a city to 2metra and then chopping forests outside the border to finish Taj was pretty genius.

Jowy's invasion against AT has to qualify, walking around the front city, getting his stack annihilated in the field, and then being himself invaded and losing cities. But yeah, nothing as spectacular as Taj Mahal Q / queue problem. I'm not going to laugh at him about that one, though, that's something dumb I would do. Not with using the culture bug, I know not to do that, but I'd find a way to screw up loaded chop overflow, it's happened before!

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Well, I think ATs invasion of Jowy does qualify as well. He did drive him out of his lands sure, but I can't believe that he really expected to be able to take Jowy out just with a few maces, LBs and 8 catapults. That was very optimistic, even if Jowy had just half the LBs in Eden Prime than he actually has (and Jowy really should have gotten a few catapults by now imo).

On a different note: Please remind me not to play with 2metraninja ever. Looking at the score he should still be in the running, especially with TT. Yet he decides to throw himself in a war with either Commodore or Cornflakes, just to play kingmaker. Don't fucking play in 6-7 games if you are not willing to put in the time necessary. And especially don't throw the game that several other people are playing in earnest just because you can.

And would you have planted them with no defense?

I really don't see much value in most of AT's posts. They tend to say things like "my invasion could destroy Jowy or fail miserably of course." Well thanks, if I flip a coin it could come up heads or tails too.
