If anyone is wondering what the banter thread is about, I think it is that Serdoa just planted his third city (must have built 1 settler quickly at size 4 then double slaved out the next settler immediately. Probably went 2 workers first as well). And Ichabod might be in position to fuck with him, but I'm not: Serdoa has an archer in his border city.
Jester, that is why quickspee warfare usually isn't worth it, and it definitely isn't worth it when you have hte slowest starting leader in the game.

Hold over from traditional MP and when most people wouldn't commit to a turn a day pace and it was the only way to keep peoples attention IMO. There was also an issue that with the number of players and size of the map, that people would regularly die to starting warriors after going worker first, knowing that if they didn't die they'd have a huge advantage and if they lost, the could start a new game, which is itself part of the "warfare on quickspeed sucks continuum".
I've always preferred large PB games. If PB13 is the next RB mod PB game, it looks like there may be over 15 players which would be a huge game.

Depends on the players, but that has always been the case. Even if you just take the PB8 players, and add in myself, yuris, and MH that's 14 players and we all stick to a turn a day pace. Then there are a few people playing in PB11 or PB12 that want to play and those games have fantastic pace. I'd actually be more concerned that more than 18 parties wanted to play rather than being stuck with 10 players in a single game. I know that there are mods out there that enable more than 18 players in a game, but still...

Would basically have to be an NTT, AI diplomacy (or AW) game on a huge map. Might even have no choice but to play on a map maker balanced Torusworld to ensure we had enough land. It would be a bit different from this game, what with having about 5 times the land area and even more distance between players...
