I'll be in and out of Seattle, but travelling for sure through northern Oregon and western Washington. Not sure if I'll have enough time to go into BC or not. Current itinerary includes the regional national parks (if the f$#*!ng government will OPEN them up again.... ), driving through state parks, hiking around, that kind of stuff. Wife probably can't be talked into a OSU game (though I DO need to figure out where I'll watch the Florida-Georgia game. It won't do to be out on a hiking trail when I should be elbow deep in hot wings). Anyway, any suggestions will be helpful. [/threadjack]
Well there is a ton of hiking in the area. Certainly try to get to St Helens or Mt Adams in Washington, and I would recommend at least one hike in the Columbia River Gorge area for northern Oregon. I'd ask Seven for advice too - he's up around Seattle if i recall.
I would recommend going down the Oregon coast. It's a gorgeous drive along Highway 101, provided you don't make in the middle of a winter storm like we had a week ago. The tourist guidebook will probably talk about Seaside and Astoria, but if you have time to get farther south then I would check out the Ecola State Park and the Three Capes Scenic Area. There's plenty of areas for clamming, crabbing, or fishing, and the Pelican Brewpub is a personal favorite for mine. Or if you can head farther south then the Depoe Bay - Newport - Yachats area is one of the prettier drives as the road goes along the ocean.
And certainly do the tourist things - the Columbia Gorge, Mt Hood, pick a brewery or two to check out (it's hard to miss, there are over 50 in Portland alone). Tour wine country, check out the restaurants. One thing Portland isn't great at is sports bars, or at least I haven't found one I've liked. Blitz is decent enough, and they have a couple locations in town.

See Multnomah falls from the upper bridge (0.3 mi hike I think) but if it's a weekend the trek to the top ain't worth the crowds. Instead, go a bit further East on I-84.
Go to Bonneville Dam (I-84 exit 40) cuz everyone does, and then cross to the opposite side of 84 and hike the Wahclella Falls loop. Wahclella Falls is a short loop (like 1 mile with 200ft elevation) and it is not overrun with people. Especially in the shoulder seasons, there's lots to see on that loop.
Horsetail falls is another good one, but a bit more elevation. Sherrard point is amazing but only if it's a clear day.

Its kinda crap weather up here at the moment, xenu, and we are between hiking and skiing seasons. However, I would probably checkout some of the downtown areas like Pike's Place Market and maybe also Mt Rainier. You'll probably have better luck a little further south as pindi suggests.
Also checkout the beer and wines up here.

Thanks for the advice guys. It's all getting starred on my map. We're trying to cram in a good driving tour of Washington and Oregon, stopping for as many hikes and parks as we can along the way. The down side of flying across the country and trying to do a vacation like this in 4.5 usable days is I'm sure we won't get to see all we want to. I think I'm going to have to resign myself to missing the football game (hello DVR back home! ), I think Saturday is the day we'll be driving up the Columbia river. So that may make the Multnomah falls trip crowded, we'll see. It's on the map and looks like it's worth trying for sure.
Any particular favorite pubs/restaurants in Portland? I've already put the Pelican Brewpub on my map, if we pass by there anywhere near a meal time I'm going to give it a try (this is all pending the wife test of course. ). Mt. Ranier is on the list right now, Mt. Hood, too, and Olympic National Park. All pending government idiocy I suppose. We have a rough outline of it all anyway. Thanks. Sorry for the threadjack, but it's like hitting free throws to your post count, right?

So to threadjack us back on topic...
We're trading black sword our only source of gems and copper?
Was that intentional or a bug? Because now we have red faces in half our cities

Funny how you mention that Krill.
pindicator: is there any good reason for us to be gifting our only source of gems to Black Sword?
me: uh because we're about to get our second gems online, no?
and we're getting it in exchange for ivory, no?
pindicator: no
we're not
me: we're actually gifting the gems?
pindicator: we're gifting
me: well someone fucked that up
declare war on him then
pindicator: black sword no longer has ivory
me: okay
so maybe scooter offered gems + copper for ivory
but before black sword logged in and saw the trade
he lost the city with ivory or had it pillaged
and the trade became gems + copper for nothing
pindicator: lol, that sucks
me: inb4pbem23joke
anyway
pindicator: hey, i'm not gonna ask for a reset
me: declare war on him i guess
pindicator: done
me: i guess he must be super confused now
tell him we're perpentach
pindicator: no wait
not done
me: oh
pindicator: we're still in enforced peace
me: we have a treaty huh
well that sucks
pindicator: 4 more turns
me: ASK HIM FOR GOLD
oh wait no currency
pindicator: he's got nothing to ask for
me: ask him for the clothes on his back

It's also possible that Black Sword got another trade request (or made one) for ivory right before receiving ours and traded it away to someone else (that we probably haven't met).

I think I want a reload. Since this will significantly impact how many citizens we work this turn it will very likely delay GLH and/or MoM by a turn.
