[SPOILERS] Scooticator and Pindooter give a sporting try

(October 25th, 2013, 09:55)scooter Wrote: Also, I think I want to rename Oilers to Bills, given the running NFL joke that the Bills play in Toronto every now and then, and they've been rumored to be moving to Canada for forever, but it's never going to happen. Seems appropriate given its proximity to our Canadian neighbor.

Isn't that inviting Commodore to take the city? You may as well go on and name it Pindicator (insert Roman numeral here). Then again if Toronto actually wanted the Bills they'd probably reside there by more so maybe, instead, this is a great defensive maneuver!

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

Agreed.

Disagreed. Lighthouse is faster here for growth:

1. Lighthouse is half price so we get +1 food as soon as the chop comes in. With a granary we need to chop and then wait to grow before we can finish with a whip.
2. First ring tiles comprise of Fish, grass forest, and 6 coast. Lighthouse is needed to turn those 1f coast tiles into 2f tiles so the city can grow.
3. My hunch is a monument before granary may be faster for development (after lighthouse). The key being we get the 2nd fish and 3 more forests in culture with the border pop. Those 3 forests will be most of Moai

I'll prove lighthouse >clams granary if you don't believe me. Monument is more tenuous

This is the 3rd straight Pitboss I've been in (second with pindicator) that the eternal granary/lighthouse thing has come up. I honestly don't know the answer for this particular case without actually simming it out, but I do think it's hilarious that it keeps coming up. This thing has as long a lifespan as the running "omg you could pop Astro from the hut" jokes in my threads. lol

It's only a matter of time before one of you lurkers makes a meme image for one/both of these two things, and then we can use it regularly in our reports. wink

After a little bit of napkin simming, i'm more confident we want to go
1. Chop lighthouse
2. Whip monument (skip if we get a religion spread)
3. Whip granary
4. Chop/Build Moai

Monument ahead of granary will delay the granary by 4 turns, but getting the earlier culture pop will speed up working the 2nd fish & being able to chop out moai by 10 turns.  Assuming we stick with 2 workers on the island and pre-chop, this will mean a faster Moai by 6 turns and 15 more food in Boilermakers than if we wait to whip the monument until after the granary.

Turn 102

So I moved units and stuff.

Another turn, another new person we meet and immediately declare war on. Like the rest of them, it should be temporary. Also in circumnav news, how insane is this:

Mack already got a city settled clear over here. He's got so much land. Also lol at that wet grass wheat right in the middle of this land. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that's a map edit. Anyway, one thing that's kinda noteworthy:

So Confucianism spread into Orioles, meaning we are just 7T away from another border pop. Nakor has put 0 culture into his iron city... So in 7T we'll steal his iron, which will be pretty trolltastic. I cannot wait. lol

Here's our core. We're squeezing a settler out of Red Wings, and our next one after that will likely come from Bulldogs.

So pindicator and I spent about an hour tonight going through our empire and making some short-term plans. I've done a little bit of twitch civ streaming before, so I fired it up. I don't have a mic, but my laptop built-in mic is apparently decent enough, so I used that. This is NOT interesting or exciting at all (had not even planned on posting it originally), but here's our little chat session - it's split into 2 roughly 30 minute blocks:

Anyway, after glancing at these it's clear my game volume was still wayyyy too high, so it's practically impossible to hear when the city screens are open. Sorry about that, I know now. Anyway, if this is somehow interesting, say so, and maybe we can do it again at some point in the future. Guessing it's pretty dull, though.

So, am I right in thinking that in the past 3 PB games you've played, you've always build the light house and granary in the wrong order?

Also, the stream is good, only request is that you mute the in game sounds.

Also, if you want to keep those videos, you need to upload them to youtube quickly, otherwise Twitch deletes them (even if you ask them to save the videos, they don't save them for long).

Eh, I still have my videos from August. You were probably a victim of Twitch's "you're logged in but not really" buggy assed shit causing your "Save Forever" directives to not go through.

*shrug* I save all videos to my HD, and if they go missing I can just upload them that way. Uploading from Twitch does save on bandwidth though.
