@zed-F editing afterwards is even worse . Now they will be convinced that there is something in your lines.
(Don't know how it is now but in the old forum you got the whole post if you had subscribed a thread - which was common to do for the thread-creator.)

Well, we'll see. From my reading of their reaction to my questions so far I don't think they will read too much into it, but I could be wrong. Still, it's not like this particular question comes at a crucial time, or anything.
Scooter and Pindicator have said they value my questions so far, for being thought provoking. I've been trying to come up with thought provoking questions that are not leading, but it seems to be a tricky business. I can certainly see the appeal of ded-lurking better than I could before the game started.

That alone is out of bounds for Lurkers.
Read Lewwyn's thread and how he got a paranoia-attack just because Gaz read his thread and then posted in Azzas and in the global lurkers thread. And Gaz didn't do anything wrong or leading at all.
Imagine Gaz asking Azza "What are your military plans?" or "What does your Army look like?.

zed, I agree you are consistently providing too much input to scoopin. remember that scoopin discuss things often (outside their thread) and miss virtually nothing. and like we talked about earlier, higher level players are more sensitive to lurker slips anyway.
of course they appreciate it, your questions are exactly the kind players hope a ded lurker would provide.

I thought Zed's post was bad when I saw it on scoopin's thread, but the one before the edit...
The safest way to think about the global lurker policy is to think that there is no "line" to avoid crossing in the first place, in my opinion. It's always best for one to not mention anything that may have bearing on the game. While I appreciate it is nice to provide thought-provoking input, the moment you did not choose to become ded-lurker you have responsible to be fair toward every player. To my understanding the lurker policy had been far more lax back in the day, but I can perfectly understand why that policy had been become more and more rigid over time...

So why is Mackoti considered the best player in Realms Beyond history?

I can't say I agree that a very restrictive lurker policy is good either for the quality of gameplay or the quality of reporting in threads, though obviously not everyone will agree with that position. I certainly think someone like MH might have benefited from an active lurker asking a few thought provoking questions, and I think the game overall would have been better for it.
Now if you want to argue that I should have ded-lurked from the beginning, you're probably right. I didn't really even consider it as I'd never ded-lurked a game before, or been interested enough to consider doing so.

Indeed, making global lurkers be extra careful is slightly negative for quality of gameplay and quality of reporting. But it's positive for integrity of game. All the good gameplay in the world won't save a game that the players feel was screwed up by lurkers spoiling it.

I can't remember the last time I posted on this topic, but it went something like this:
The games are for the players. You are not a player. You are a lurker. You get jack shit. You do not attempt to "improve the gameplay", you do not attempt to "improve the reporting". The games are for the players, if they choose to report they do so one their terms, in a manner and on a timescale that they see fit.
Current games (All): RtR: PB80 Civ 6: PBEM23
Ended games (Selection): BTS games: PB1, PB3, PBEM2, PBEM4, PBEM5B, PBEM50. RB mod games: PB5, PB15, PB27, PB37, PB42, PB46, PB71. FFH games: PBEMVII, PBEMXII. Civ 6: PBEM22 Games ded lurked: PB18

Also Zed-F, while it is true that players might benefit from lurkers asking thought provoking questions, that's why we have ded-lurkers, since they're able to and allowed to ask those sorts of questions without fear of compromising conformation, since they have only been reading the one thread. Once you start reading other threads, your statements are going to be influenced by anything else you've seen, whether you mean for it to be leading or not. How are scoopin to know you didn't ask that question after reading something in Commodore's thread?
Lurkers asking questions are great if they're in a position not to be spoiled by knowledge from other threads, and unfortunately, you are in a position where you can't claim that. I'd ask you to just be extra cautious in what you post, even if you have been investing more in scoopin's game.
