I think only context you're missing is the reference to THH being lumped in with the top players, and that's because he was the first person to reference elsewhere the ranking discussion inside Gaspar and Noble's thread that you guys can't access. I don't think there's any more to it than that, Seven.

Thanks for the info.
I'm going to not discuss player rankings.
We've probably been freaking out the poor players of PB13, hehe.

a) I think that mack is the strongest player on RB, but I don't think his "lead" is a big as some believe it to be.
b) I don't think you are an ass Seven, but I felt attacked by your post - unfairly so in my eyes.
c) THH is in that list because he has imo shown some unconventional thinking that can help you a great deal if you can actually learn to differentiate between the good and the bad ideas. No more, no less.

Sorry. I knew talking about that was risky but I thought I could pull it off without hurting feelings. My bad.
Your play in pb8 and especially pbem32 stands out in my mind as very impressive. Hope that makes up a bit for feeling attacked.

Definitely... is that bad?
The ranking mentioned here and in THH's duel thread in the general forum can be found in Noble/Gaspar's PB16 thread. they put some thought into it, though I think they ranked me too high.
The full ranking is post 311 for the PB16 spoiled.

Er, we still can't just go and view that unless one of Gaspar or Noble post it publicly. But thanks all the same.

I still think this discussion is nonsense (and the ranking Gaspar+NH did). You can assess that some people are well versed in micro and macro managing the game (and on those we do agree) but ranking those is BS. What games do you use to judge? PB4 Lord Parkin won clearly and that in a setup featuring plako, mackoti and Sullla/Speaker.
PBEM23 novice+Seven outplayed everyone including mackoti in the opening and got a huge lead. Sadly some unfair action by other players made both of them quit and the game ended in a draw (IIRC).
And so on and so forth. See above how fast a discussion over the endposition of 1 single game can become unpleasant.
Not to mention that a lot can change in time. Who would have thought dtay to be that strong?
A few years ago it was mostly_harmless who taught C&D to the folks here. Nowadays he seems to neglect it and got surprised in his sandbox.

I don't see this conversation as unpleasant. I would like to think that there is a difference of opinion and perspective, with a dash of incomplete context. If Serdoa and 7 were sitting at a Starbucks talking about their game, I'd be hard pressed to see it devolving into anything more unpleasant than an overpriced but tasty mocha. Certainly no one would be asked to leave that fine establishment over the rancorous debate.
I enjoy the ranking of players. Gaspar stated at one point that it was strictly opinion and to not get all riled up about it and I think it is perfectly fine, as well as being fun and useful for other players to have an idea of who an experienced player thinks would make for an even game. Ask yourself if PB12 would have been a better (more competitive) game if all players had been in the same "level" or area of skill. Serdoa played, Noble lurked, and they predictably roflstomped the competition. If they had been replaced by me, Brick, or a host of other players around my level, very likely the game would still be underway and the outcome in doubt. Does that mean they should not have played? Not necessarily. But, if the players want a better (again, more competitive) game, then Perhaps not. Having a handy list to see who is generally perceived to be around your level of skill is a good thing to me, especially when you are investing so much time and effort into a game, only to find out that you are apparently horrible because the veterans ran away with the game.
Note, I am not saying that anyone in PB12 is horrible, I'm only trying to underscore how a greenish player may feel after trying so hard and failing to be competitive. That would be like me training for months to race an Olympic sprinter. It just won't end well for the non-expert.

I responded in his thread. I couldn't let him suffer in the dark. I'm far too kind, I know.
