I agree with Xenu totally on the setup.
I will say though, that I think we *need* to make this a one continent game in the manner that torusland does, which is basically one contiguous landmass interspersed with lakes. The reasoning being that a more continental game risks creating more wars then can be easily handled with timezone slots, while a torusland-esque game will keep roughly the same number of enemies as you expand through them.

I hope we don't try to get 30+ people really vote on detailed settings. PB13 has very good settings so I would use those + maybe add also events with a caveat that you can ignore bad events to spice up things even more. Map should have less room/player for sure and I won't care if it is continents type or torusland although I slightly prefer Torusland mainly for to get a bit different game than PB8 and PB13 were. So I say we nominate the dictator (Commodore?) who opens sign-up thread and copies PB13 settings almost as is there and it is take it or leave it after that.

I think there was talk at one point about a future version of the mod doing away with some of the more obnoxious events, but that was up to the generosity if whoever was making changes to the mod. Not sure if it would be ready for the new version, but if we could at least get rid of freaking slave revolts....
PB13 is the largest game we've run lately and if the settings there worked well (and I think they have so far) they seem as good a starting place as any. I don't care who the dictator is, Commodore is fine, as long as it's someone people will listen to (and not shout down in the setup thread, unlike in some other recent game that almost died before it started).
Edit: Oooo I gained a level. Yay.

I think recent events have shown I won't be able to manage a Pitboss pace. I'll join Brick and play this as a teamer.
Also, another vote for not voting. No way we get this many people to agree on anything. Just 'what Commodore proposes is good enough' or 'I won't be playing' as vote options, please.

Trying to have everyone agree on a settings set will be a nightmare. Let's take a set of rules/setup that has shown to work for a lot of people, let a game admin/mapmaker (commodore) tailor them some as he (and lurker input) thinks is needed, and everyone playing should accept that not every one of their preferences will be met, so to deal with it for the chance to play in a very vast game.
Counterpoint: my thoughts on issues novice raised:
Also I'm stealing Mardoc and we'll be playing as a team.

Same goes for disputes that arise between players during the game. no player input, or it will take forever. Iron fist commodore rule.

Please, someone try to get Mackoti to play this because every story is better with an unstoppable evil empire shrouded in mystery.

I think the discussion moved on from there, but I think this would work as OCC and I'd be happy to play it that way.
Otherwise, PB13 settings seem to work.
