It still sucks when it happens, and even more so when you have a valuable and limited resource that you can't reproduce. It isn't like they'll be able to roll more amphibious grens off the assembly line whenever they want. They need to preserve their force to make the most out of this attack window before everyone has units that can stop the mayhem (or until mackoti pwns the world). Not even getting a scratch under these circumstances would make me crazy, even knowing that something similar is statistically inevitable. We seldom remember our flawless victories the same way we recall losses. We're hardwired to remember losses.

I guess. Just seems surreal for them to be so upset they can't report when they lose two units, while TBS is busy losing an empire. Especially when their attacking units were all wounded to begin with - it's not like they've been trying to minimize battle losses or maximize XP or something, this is a blitz.

And yeah, I'm not saying this directly to scooter because there'd be no useful purpose served. He might see my point in 10 turns or at the end of the game, but he won't see it today.

I thought they could continue to build zerks until they could build both grens and rifles; if they could only build rifles, would they still be able to build mace?

Yah well guess what they took some *very* good combat rolls, of course they were all injured. There was 0 need to heal up because of how good their odds were. Also a blitz is a very good way to deal with TBS right now since he revolted OUT of slavery for whatever reason so they have a window of oppurtunity to capitalize, and before Mack can possibly interfere.

They can definitely produce Zerks still. Do the obsolescence rules change for UUs?

Yeah it's something like you can build your UU until the second unit down the upgrade line is available to build. Not with exactly that language I think.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

I just checked in game. and can confirm that the mace/zerk is available at rifling without MS. With zerks, you can have one of rifles or grens available and still build zerks, but not both. Krill wins the point.

You can build units until you've unlocked all the units they upgrade to (or, substituting for a given such unit, a unit* that IT upgrades to). Quechuas upgrade directly to maces in addition to axes and spears, and that's why you can build them after unlocking axes and spears. Other UUs have the same upgrade capabilities as the unit they replace. I can't think of any other UUs which have different upgrade capabilities, but I could easily be forgetting or unaware of some.

As an example, warriors upgrade to axes and spears, axes upgrade to maces, maces upgrade to rifles and grens, rifles upgrade to infantry, grens upgrade to infantry and machine guns, spears upgrade to pikes, pikes upgrade to rifles and grens. If you have the techs and resources to build warriors, axes, spears, pikes, and machine guns (but not maces, rifles, grens, or infantry), which of them can you build?

Answer:
Pikes and machine guns.

Explanation:
You can build axes and spears, so no warriors. You can build pikes, so no spears. You can't build macemen, but looking at its right upgrade (grens): you can't build grens, but looking at its right upgrade (machine guns): you CAN build them. So because axes only upgrade to macemen, and you have a right-descendant of macemen, you can't build axes.

* Specifically, look in civilopedia for the rightmost icon of units that it upgrades to. This is also the unit that it would get auto-upgraded to in your build queue when it goes obsolete.

That would be a very interesting tech tree. smile

Thanks for the detailed answer.

This might be the first RB game I've paid attention to where there wasn't one clear frontrunner by t150, let alone nearly turn 200. I think we could definitely see Viking destroyers in the water, who knows?
