Well it looks like Scooter's bet to attack Lewwyn and bigger is going to pay off. With mackoti not willing to go to war he will be able to focus entirely on China and Commodore will have no desire to join without a dogpile. That was a smart move by scooter to get EP visibility, although with airships he soon would get the same kind of vision. Lewwyn probably has zero chance with scooter able to tell where he's coming in at.

Scooter may still take losses here, he's depending on cannons and the *attack only* bonus of grens v rifles. that means he wont get quite as much defenders' advantage as normal- he has to forgo his city drfense bonii and attack out.
on the flip hand, someone (William?) reported that Azza recaptured a city... so signs of life from there can only help Scooter.
If Mackoti had simply remained at war, this would be much more serious for Vikings. As is, i expect only one viking city to burn.

Yeah, it all depends on how many cannons scooter has on the main front. He will be able to see any attack forming

Im bummed that Free Market is so overwhelmingly popular, but again that's just a victim of the intercontinental island-heavy map. which is excellent, by the way.
I keep waiting for Commodore to turn on Scooter. Maybe in 10t, with Kremlin in hand, and Lewwyn* launching dead livestock over the walls from the south, he'll see the opportunity. In that contingency, Comm really has a chance to win... but he's not even admitting it's an option! Cavs would cut thru the Viking mainland like butter, and you know Mack would join in as well. The Naval threat is real, but the vikings have no standing army in the East.
*scooter said Lewwyn "changed the mental calculus." The difference between Bigger is so large, it's like comparing a raccoon to, well, a bear! Even if Commodore doesnt pile on, Scooter will not win this game with Lewwyn at the table.

So you're saying after the admin okayed sell cities we should then hobble ourselves against the rest of the field out of a sense of moral rightness? As Krill said, mostly I was just struck by the irony. If your preferred policy went into effect - it would have pretty much just limited you, no one else wants to trade away cities at this time. And in fact your choice there was the least objectionable end of trading cities - done specifically to increase your odds of winning, rather than to kingmake.
@Krill: The tech pace seems actually pretty reasonable. Fast enough that new stuff is coming along steadily, but no ridiculous streaks of 1-turned techs. No idea if this is balanced, but it seems more fun. I'm pretty amazed by the raw numbers, but the pace is good.

If the superpowers take 4 turns to research Physics, that means smaller civs are looking at 10+ turns, and that's probably about as slow as I'd want before things stop being fun - especially at this stage of the tech tree which oftens feels just like a long empty road between the Renaissance and the Industrial eras, where the biggest event of note is watching your tech decrease by 25% as you get scientific method.
So mackoti disagrees and thinks it's too slow.
Fun times.

Wasn't he being sarcastic when he said that?

Well, the Canadian Kremlin announcement should help clue people in about who is really winning the tech rate race.
If not, the drafting strategy could let Commodore stay under the radar for quite a while...

If the game plays out Commodore will win because he's still enjoying himself immensely, and at this point its all about who is going to put the time in.

I actually wonder 13 gold to Lewwyn indicate serious commitment to attack, considering his reported disinterest.

13 turns is almost two weeks, right? That's a fair amount of time to mentally refresh.

Seeing players come up with totally different valuations of traits is interesting IMO.
And Pin, trade routes. mack had Corp in that old demo shot, but no one else did. He still has an absurd capital and Bureaucracy, and EXP/ORG has tons of cheap buildings that affect GNP.
