Vikings die just fine to HAs, no? Forgot about the Zulus, though.
If we're floating a turn of research, I think Pottery is the best target, since we'll definitely want that tech soon.
The plains hill city is a bit of a problem even as our second city, those rice resources are far away.
I have to run.

Honestly there are no good second city sites IMO, at least not from a strategic point of view. The copper is just in an awkward position because of the seafood.

Wouldn't be so bad but we see zero reason to get Hunting because there are no animals to pasture.

novice, I've found some MM that will enable overflow from the settler into a granary. Granary eot T37, and the settler will be delayed 1 turn until eot T35. The downside to doing this is that whip unhappy will be stacked, so basically have to keep a warrior around in the capital. Also, it's of debatable value simply because of the low happy cap, which is lowered again due to that stacking, and that all of the happiness is in a direction we don't want to settle. OTOH, it would make double whips slightly easier to do, even though they are less efficient, but we lack the worker labour and growth to make use of the hills, especially as they are not river adjacent.
There is also MM that allows us to complete that road 2 of Old Timers and then carry on with the chopping plan, that gets teh settler eot T35 but hte granary eot T38 (spending one turn building a worker at size 2, and hitting size 4 eot T41). The downside to this is that there is no second warrior...I'm trying a few fdifferent things like mining the plains hill forest and roading it, and it's fairly interesting but it is still quite slow (settler eot T37 but with the warrior, but granary around eot T38)

OK, novice, need to know where you stand on what forest to chop and the MM for the next 10 turns or so.
Specifically, need to know what you think the priorities need to be:
- Earlier Settler
- Earlier Granary
- Second Warrior
- Third Worker
- Likely second city location
What do you think is most important?

I'm not strong om generalities... An early granary sounds tempting though.

Can get a granary before t40. Problem is it generally delays the settler a couple of turns.
That does mean that there is more time to get that first warrior from scouting the coper back up north to defend the settler if we settle for those corn.

As I see it, if we go Pottery next there are limits on where we can settle the second city. Namely, that the copper is not a possible city location unless we find a grain resource as we will not be able to improve the food. That means that we can settle for one of the two corns, or for that rice. I think that settling for the corn and rice is perhaps the only location that is acceptable other than settling to the west or north to claim land.
If we also rush out the settler, then we have 2 workers, 2 food tiles improved, and need to road towards those city locations and improve the new food tiles. That means there will be no workers to chop out the granary (or at most 1 to chop and need a 1 pop slave...stretching happy situation to the point where the granary is not worth it). We also need to beware which forests to move the workers to so they are in ideal location to move to the new city site, but rushing out the settler means we have to make that decision now before we get the scouting info.
It's trivial to delay the settler to overflow out the granary. I think the worker MM is generally better, because I think we have too much to do to deal with that settler on eot T34, with the road, the new food tile, improving the capital...
