RB Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Peter of Byzantium

Rowain Wrote:Don't let your anger over your own (greedy) move spoil your perception of the situation. The current misery you are in is your own working and not the fault of others. For sure it is not the fault of Jowy.

Uh...Merry Christmas huh?

In case you were wondering, I'm not the least bit miserable about our situation. We made a bad move and paid for it, but I'm still enjoying the game and our new goals.

As to your analysis of the situation, I guess we'll just have to disagree. It seems pretty clear to me that Jowy gains more by letting us lick his boots and occupy the Ottomans, than by letting us die. Whether that benefits Sulla or not is beside the point.

This might not matter to you but Jowy has to take that into account as well. But yes I guess we just happen to disagree here. Good Luck with your Escape-plan and

Its a matter for Jowy minimally propping up the Byzantines(one metal) that he probably has lying around not using to slow down the Ottomans instead of letting them take all of the Byzantine Empire. Ottomans and Spullla gain the most out of Jowy having to care about 2 fronts.

I think its a certain frustation about how Jowy's playing his hand with respect to how each and everyone of us owuld play the same hand.

*shrug*

This isn't really the place to be discussing the metagame elements in the decisions other teams make.

True.

My high school German is now 20 years rusty, but I thought it was Fröhliche Weihnachten smile.

Logged in and played T75 - no moves

email to the ottomans
Quote:With the game starting back up, have you had a chance to review our email from earlier? I know it's the holidays and folks lives are busy, but I do see that you've both logged in a few times during the pause and your thread has been active, so hopefully you at least have some initial thoughts

and one to sullla
Quote:As you may already know, his settler / phalanx pair is sharing a hill with our warrior on this turn (T75). I don't know if they will settle there or not but I'll let you know what I see

Here was the email sent back from the Ottomans

Quote:Greetings Byzantines,

Sorry for the delay in answering, but both of us were quite busy over
the holidays and had a hard time finding time to discuss.

We welcome your friendlier tone. We were concerned things would get a
bit personal, because we understand that it's easy to get upset about
what happened.

Regarding your offer for peace, while we appreciate it, we also feel
that it is a bit too little and even maybe a bit too late. We don't
see what you could offer us right now that would be worth for us. We
will be honest here and tell you that what you suggested doesn't quite
cut it. For example, saying that you are "ceding" the city of Endor is
not a very good choice of words given that we have it and you are not
even remotely in position to threaten it.

In the middle of chatting with Athlete - will post the full log when we're done

He compared us to the PAL / Rabbits war, and wanted to make sure to finish us off rather than being at war for 100 turns. I have suggested the 3rd way, that he could take peace with us and get the advantages of both.

Quote:u there?
me: hi
Team: just sent you an e-mail...sorry about that, kalin and I connected a couple times...trying to go over your e-mail
me: yeah i just read it
Team: at the end it was supposed to have been sent yesterday
but i don't know why it didn\t
so sorry about that
athlete here
btw
me: okay
you don't think having a "meat shield" civ on the front is useful?
Team: a meat shield from who?
me: sullla? jowy?
Team: we've got friendly relations with everybody around us
and there's not a lot we can do about india
me: well, they're probably acting friendly but you may not be aware of the emails we've had from folks worried about how large you will be getting
i would think it could be useful to "control" more land (i.e. ours) without actually having it part of your civ
to prevent a pileup on someone who has twice the land (plus holy city) of anyone else
i'm not saying that, in the end, it would be enough (only you can decide that)
but i don't think that it is useless
Team: ya i dunno...we won't be teh only ones with a lot of land to expand into
inca are in that position already
i expect there to be another civ eliminated as well
and that leaves us left to eliminate you
and secure a relationship with jowy
i dunno...us being top dawg doesn't seem like it will happen soon the way india is going
me: perhaps
Team: and with everything else happening it might not happen, though i would expect if we can eliminate you guys sooner than later then we could rex our way to matching the others who've been able to do it peacefully
i already feel we're starting to fall behind due to the war
me: yeah
Team: but i don't know if i remember the names correctly
but from sulla's report on the apolyton game
it's like that team that let teh other (rabbits I think) live so long
me: right
Team: it just ended up hurting htme
me: well the 3rd option is coming to some sort of agreement
i agree that us being at war for 50 -100 turns more hurts you
but if we can work something out, then it can aid both of us
even now, you should be putting your chops and whips into workers and settlers instead of the axes / swords
Sent at 8:31 AM on Monday
Team: i gotta run for 10 min..but i'll be right back if you can hold that thought
me: ok
Sent at 8:32 AM on Monday
me: if you think about it, the 3rd option (peace / agreement with us) gives you both the benefits of the land that you would pick up from eliminating us and the ability to continue to rex with the other civs
without becoming as much of a top dog (at least in the perception of the other civs)
Sent at 8:37 AM on Monday
Team: back
Sent at 8:38 AM on Monday
me: hi
Team: Hmmm...I dunno...I came into this game wanting to follow a certain plan and that went out the window when you settled paris
lol
Kalin will see this chat so we'll discuss more
we tend to communicate via e-mail as neither of us usually have more than 5 min to sit down and chat
me: right
Team: atleast at the same time
Sent at 8:41 AM on Monday
Team: But like I said I don't know...I don't want to lead you on again as it's not necessary in this case (as it was before) so at this point don't assume anythings changed
me: we won't

About what I expected...they'd be nuts to make peace with us now. We're choked, they are about to get a metal online, better to just finish us off.
