In case you were wondering, I'm not the least bit miserable about our situation. We made a bad move and paid for it, but I'm still enjoying the game and our new goals.

As to your analysis of the situation, I guess we'll just have to disagree. It seems pretty clear to me that Jowy gains more by letting us lick his boots and occupy the Ottomans, than by letting us die. Whether that benefits Sulla or not is beside the point.

Its a matter for Jowy minimally propping up the Byzantines(one metal) that he probably has lying around not using to slow down the Ottomans instead of letting them take all of the Byzantine Empire. Ottomans and Spullla gain the most out of Jowy having to care about 2 fronts.

I think its a certain frustation about how Jowy's playing his hand with respect to how each and everyone of us owuld play the same hand.

With the game starting back up, have you had a chance to review our email from earlier? I know it's the holidays and folks lives are busy, but I do see that you've both logged in a few times during the pause and your thread has been active, so hopefully you at least have some initial thoughts

As you may already know, his settler / phalanx pair is sharing a hill with our warrior on this turn (T75). I don't know if they will settle there or not but I'll let you know what I see

Sorry for the delay in answering, but both of us were quite busy over
the holidays and had a hard time finding time to discuss.

We welcome your friendlier tone. We were concerned things would get a
bit personal, because we understand that it's easy to get upset about
what happened.

Regarding your offer for peace, while we appreciate it, we also feel
that it is a bit too little and even maybe a bit too late. We don't
see what you could offer us right now that would be worth for us. We
will be honest here and tell you that what you suggested doesn't quite
cut it. For example, saying that you are "ceding" the city of Endor is
not a very good choice of words given that we have it and you are not
even remotely in position to threaten it.

He compared us to the PAL / Rabbits war, and wanted to make sure to finish us off rather than being at war for 100 turns. I have suggested the 3rd way, that he could take peace with us and get the advantages of both.

me: well, they're probably acting friendly but you may not be aware of the emails we've had from folks worried about how large you will be getting
i would think it could be useful to "control" more land (i.e. ours) without actually having it part of your civ
to prevent a pileup on someone who has twice the land (plus holy city) of anyone else
i'm not saying that, in the end, it would be enough (only you can decide that)
but i don't think that it is useless

i expect there to be another civ eliminated as well
and that leaves us left to eliminate you
and secure a relationship with jowy

even now, you should be putting your chops and whips into workers and settlers instead of the axes / swords

me: if you think about it, the 3rd option (peace / agreement with us) gives you both the benefits of the land that you would pick up from eliminating us and the ability to continue to rex with the other civs
without becoming as much of a top dog (at least in the perception of the other civs)
