You start next to agg rome and you can just about defend against them with agg axes. Otherwise you can't, so you have to stop them hooking up iron. So you have to choke them, as there is no other way of being sure they aren't going to take you out of hte game.
And they had a chance, 1/3 of taking out a LiPing warrior and then walking into an empty capital, so it's actually their own fault for not taking that 1/3 shot, something that Broker talked about after the situation passed.

Founding Pyongyang on the hill would have helped too.

That seems reasonable. Especially since Korea had an early source of horses, and chariots are great for plundering strategic resources, they could have gone on the early offensive. I can't blame them for not doing so however, as they seemed to be genuinely hoping for good relations. They even had a reasonable expectation that relations could be peaceful with all that free land to Rome's east.
I suppose, however, that given all that free space to Rome's east, Whosit's insistence on settling west and being somewhat difficult in the negotiations could have been a tipoff to Whosit's hostile intentions (not to mention his civ choice).

Well Whosit's a replacement player, so it wasn't technically HIS choice of a civ...

Yeah that's true. I guess just remove the word "choice" from the end of the sentence for greater accuracy

I wonder if Spulla are aware that Jowy can see their research. Seems like it might be something that slipped under their radar, despite their otherwise impressive cloak and dagger work. Seems like they will see the CoW attack coming. Of course, it could still be hard to defend against. On the other hand, I'm curious if Dantski will even be able to come up with his share of troops - his civilization seems very poorly developed.

He can pillage the land around Wonsan but if he wants a city of his own in the area he's going to have to take it out, at possibly quite significant losses. So maybe you could buy peace for that city and/or other concessions. You might be able to build a decent empire with your capital, a city west of it, and whatever cities you can found (or capture?) off-shore, even if you have to waive settling rights to all other mainland cities near your capital. I agree. Wonsan in exchange for peace, a long NAP and settling rights to the west (but not north) of Seoul seems fair. If Korea does surrender it could spell big trouble for Spullla...

Unless they ally with Korea and Korea attacks Jowy across the water.

Can I be the first to predict that the CoW will not all attack at the same time, but rather in waves, which will lead to their complete slaughter as Spullla has plenty of time to get enough defenses to take them down?

Yeah, that's the sort of offer I'd be tempted to give as well. It's a bit of a problem that either Wonsan or P'yongyang could easily fall to Whosit, but the other would be difficult to take. Personally I'd heal everything up and send it straight at Pyy, if that city falls Ploker aren't going to be able to hold Wonsan for long, all Whosit has to do is choke the city from the east and west with 2 axes and he can send everything else at Spullla. I think even with 4-5 axes, Pyy would fall to 10 preats with ease.
