RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

The problem is Sulla is convinced that their team is superior compared to their opponents (of which he thinks very low) and this shows in his actions and diplomacy.

Yeah, pretty much. Checkout one of the SGs where he partnered up with all those inexperienced guys and about half nearly left part way through because of the way Sullla was posting frown.

Like he said, whether he intends it or not, he jsut comes off like that.

He's not necessarily wrong in that conviction, but I have to agree some of his mails come across as awfully smug. In hindsight I'm not that surprised the projected attitude annoyed the recipients.

The lengthy and detailed explanations posted in the thread are awesome though. smile

That is true. I wonder what his history classes are like... ?

More importantly... I don't think Speaker highly suspects the pillage move. HE should be able to figure it out once the stack moves SW. What to do at taht point though?

Hmm, I think I remember seeing at least one spear on the horse tile in their screenshots. But I don't think they mentioned the option so it may indeed come as a surprise. smile

The moment you realist it you slave out every AH you can and kill the stack the next turn. It's an all of nothing gamble.

But there are ways and ways of saying that someone's play is stupid (or stoopid if you want to take more sting out of it). Firstly, you comment on their play ... not on the person. Then you say something like 'wow, we caught a lucky break when so-and-so didn't move to tile X' or 'hmm - not what I would have done and here is why'.

The CoW didn't bring enough spears duh. They knew Spullla had horses. They knew they could tech like a bat out of hell ... what did they expect to face ... axes and archers? And to think they were worried about longbows (a defensive unit) when they should have been worried about HAs (an offensive unit).
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

No one ever brings enough spears. It'd have to be a 50/50 stack...you ever seen anyone build a stack along those lines? Me neither. Probably because it couldn't kill anything.

None of them are MPers, which explains the lack of knowledge. HA were ridiculed before BtS (and rightly so IMO), but since then with the introduction of flanking and hte removal of the -10% city attack penalty, they are critical units, even if your enemy has WE. Mainstay of any army. Swords are a much more defensive unit, used to defend tiles that have high defense, but HA...yeah, just watch.

I wonder if this tendency comes from single player, where we are all used to talking like that about the AIs. huh

No, I think it's just Sulla being Sulla smile. He was pretty, um, frank about what he thought of the Templars in the demogame write up. And he's ripped Alex for all the things he doesn't like about BTS several times. Maybe its from being an academic, but he definitely has no problem expressing disdain for the work of others lol. In his defense, you have to admit he's often correct.

I find this thread fairly ad hominem, and Sulla's the lightning rod for everything. Divide people into pro- and anti- Sulla camps, then look at post content. I think you'll find the opinions expressed correlate fairly well with how they perceive him.
