If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Looks like I didn't take a great picture of the Borsche situation.
He evidently had a settler and axe ready to go when Tsargon planted his horse city and moved them west. T107 they were on the first flood plain and I moved an axe and archer onto the hills to say don't come any closer. But he moved closer. In response I filled up the 3 hills and declared war. Our poor trade routes. This turn the settler has disappeared and he offered a peace treaty. I sent back a cease fire, my settler was whipped this turn. Scipio and Haram meanwhile was just moving my trireme through up here: I didn't think it would spook Scipio because a) I'm declaring on Haram too. b) I'm staying away from his seafood. c) I thought moving up to his borders and turning around would look pretty fishy anyway. Scipio never gave me OBs before which seemed like a good excuse not to try now, I obviously don't want him scouting my assembling stack. He has objected violently though(might have had something to do with my mass whipping after discovering construction): Defending the jungle with woody units is a pretty good idea. We'll see what his tactics are like, but you can't do much with 5 cities vs 15 and behind Construction and HBR. As for Haram, he rejected OBs when we first met and I didn't fancy giving him some now, when his scout is beside my borders. The less info he has to react to my invasion the better. Meanwhile, the Temple of Artemis came through for me, as I rolled a Merchant in Dor-Lomin. That can go on a trade mission for 1100g and we can think about a golden age from our next GP in 9t time. The timing on that sounds far better. I should probably just build Paya too and go into Free Religion then.
I've been negotiating the turn split with Scipio over the last few turns. First he double moved me, then I double moved him, now he's going to double move me again.
Each time with the other party's consent of course. Still hopefully we can stick with this. Fortunately we're not really engaging yet, I could have used my double move to hit his woody 2 axe with a chariot but that would have been pretty low, I think that's the only opportunity that's been available. I managed to declare on exactly the wrong side of the turn split each time(Scipio, Borsche and Haram). I was just playing when I was able to, I didn't want to leave my trireme idle and I couldn't afford to give Borsche an extra half a turn to get into those hills.
Hard to tell how things are going at the moment. According to the victory screen I have 10% of the world's population and GJ has 17%. That doesn't sound good. As a result, everything besides my soldier count looks pretty terrible. My demos:
All the rival bests up there are pretty inflated though, either by golden ages that are almost over, or ~100f that's just supporting pop. However I doubt it will look good even when the GAs end. I guess it's all up to how I use my military, speaking of which: Add another 4 war elephants and 8 horse archers to this too. Scipio's power graph is actually pretty flat despite our skirmish, he just declared on Tsargon too. Maybe I went a bit over board? Well, after this final wave I'm planning to leave 3 barracks cities on military duty and try get everything else back growing. A couple of interesting cities: Got to love this place. My future capital needs the last few cottages to be put down. We'll probably get the 500gpp here and then we can switch to working tiles as Bureau comes in. Eglarest is being whipped pretty brutally for this war. 2 war elephants every 3t. I've had to be pretty careful of my happy cap here but now with Calendar coming I won't need to worry for a while. Eventually it can just whip in a 2 happy market and work specialists if things get too bad. On the tech front, I'm planning to sideline into Meditation and Music after Calendar, which should take 3t. I'll slowbuild the Paya in Dor-Lomin. Music gets me the Great Artist, who will probably be used on a golden age and culture building. The two cities I'm founding on Tsargon's island will get a rocket start from the culture building, which is why I'm picking it up now. A couple of other cities could still use low impact border pops and it will be handy when Scipio's cities come out of revolt too. The great artist will be pretty weak if Dor Lomin rolls me something else that can be only used on a GA. But I figure even if I have to settle a Prophet in my Bureau cap, that's still ok value from the 'free' great person.(3.5hpt, 6.25gpt, 5.25bpt). After Music I'll probably head toward Civil Service. I'll time the golden age to match well with Bureau and Free Religion revolts, probably within 5t of Music. I want to keep the Machinery bulb open for as long as possible. Quote:or ~100f that's just supporting pop. Gotta ask this question...but at what point does that food lead for supporting pop stop being "inflation" and start being something like stored hammer or a per turn output lead that smashes your teeth in? ie when is a food lead concerning for you?
I don't care if some has a 50 pop advantage working bare grasslands, which is what the 100f represents. The only food lead that concerns me is a real food surplus, when he opened up a 40fpt surplus earlier that was more worrying.(And he actually still has ~10fpt over me).
Obviously GJ is not working bare grasslands though, his tiles will be contributing hammers and gold too. But those will show up in the top 2 demos, not the food stat, so it's those I'm paying more attention too. And I am already pretty concerned about those. It's hard to factor out the golden age, but I guess he's making on the order of 100gpt and 50hpt over me. To a certain extent this is just a matter of perspective of course, the pop advantage that shows up in his food figure is what allows him to generate the extra hammers and gold. It's just the way I look at things. And my wonders do make my empire more efficient, they'll generate useful output while not adding to my food figure, while if he wants to match that output he needs a higher pop and food figure. |
