RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

I am still a bit disappointed by the "cheesy" part of waiting the last minute.
After a move like that, they will have absolutely no reason to complain about opponent "wasting" the clock by not ending turn.

Even worse, that is the kind of movement that will make opponent desesperately try to "play' the clock to manage to make the turn rolls when everyone else is sleeping.

IMHO that is really NOT acting in good faith.
(plus what could have Jowy done, whip another spear, it is not like it would have been able to change anything)
--> for the next war, we will see a real dirty fight to have the second part of the clock, and it could lead to nasty discussions.
(plus I am very afraid of people using this in RB3 for exemple)

For what it is worth, there is a rule I could institute to stop this eventuality, but it requires that a player be almost constantly available to capitalise upon the rule.

Basically, I just shorten each teams turn time by 4 hours, so each team has 8 hours, and the remaining 8 hours of the turn no one can move, but they can adjust builds etc.

Problem? What if those last 8 hours are in the middle of the night? Or you are at work?

Effectively the rule doesn't matter.

I knew when I was writing this rule that this is what Spullla would do. I wasn't sure if Jowy would be cynical enough to spot this and log in in the last 5 minutes to make the build changes as required...not that it would save him.

Ultimately, there has to be some balance between perfectino of a rule and playability. I could write the perfect rule, but it would mean 3 days per turn under the circumstances that this game is being played.

I agree with you about the gamy nature of the move, and I see no effective way to stop it ether. however the problem with the fight over 2nd half of the turn during warfare, my opinion is that the agressor of the war gets 1st half and the defendor gets 2nd purly as I feel it balances best that way - namly you want the war, you should be ready for the concequences if it all goes wrong and your left trying to defend on the first half. Else the defending team is doubly punised for being wardec'd on.

Well, alot of things have been gamey. I would rather see an extension at the end of a 24 hour period so team first half could respond with whips.

Agree that whatever you do or decide, there will be time when you won't be able to respond and you have to live with it.

But seeing Spullla waiting specially the last minute is leaving a bad taste in my mouth (especially the way they are saying it as being extremely pleased with themselves at it)

Seems to me that Jowy would be much better off abandoning Sparta... it has 0 developed tiles and is practically useless anyway, better to get those troops to defend the developed core!

I have a feeling that Spullla are doing the cheese move because they're still upset at the dogpile. I understand that they are upset and therefore opt to do a cheese move (admittedly a cheese move according to Sullla) because they want to even the playing field.

I have a feeling that if Spullla weren't as emotionally invested in this war, they wouldn't stoop to the cheese move level.

Whether Spulllas annoyance with the dogpile is fair is another story altogether smile

I think it is also just the MP side of Speaker, as moving at the last second of a turn (at least from what I have heard) is common there.

Sullla too. He's commented on occasion that playing with the clock and turn timings when necessary is just part of MP and accepted as part of the game. I guess he's probably right. Any setup with simultaneous turns will be vulnerable to that sort of manipulation one way or another.

Do you mean abandon Thebes? Thebes should never have been founded in the first place. (Or at least not in that place.)
I have to run.
