I noticed that he told Spullla somewhere that "he saw them coming but still couldn't stop it". If he wants to give that impression (however futile that may be) then you shouldn't contradict him. Someone who builds a wonder in a border-city during wartime can not claim he couldn't stop the enemy. As India points out in their thread:
Sullla Wrote:For those who missed it, the Great Wall was in Sparta, and it was razed to the ground. Since Jowy won zero battles against us after it was built, he didn't get even a single extra Great General point. Nice build, Jowy! Speaker pointed out that just building three spears instead would have saved Sparta, and prevented having to give away Argos and Thebes.
zakalwe Wrote:Anyway, no offense intended, and certainly not a big deal either way. None taken as its good to have checks and yeah I doubt they gained new insights by my post.
zakalwe Wrote:BTW, I'm not so sure he knew they had fastmovers somewhere. He just mentioned that they had additional troops unaccounted for - he did not explicitly say that they were fastmovers. As India used some HA to kill the remaining stacks and had Horses reconnected by this turn. The numbers of them might have come as a surprise but not the existence.

Athlete, with no forests available for chopping:
Quote:Currently building The Hanging Gardens. It will take me a dozen turns still to get this built. It's a shame as I might already have it if I had kept the stone from Greece but now it's in India's hands. I'm just really hoping I don't get beat to it now. I'm at 8 cities now and will have atleast 9 maybe 10 on this continent by the time I land it.
Spullla:
Quote:Plus, we get Hanging Gardens in 6 turns if no one else builds it. Cross your fingers....
It looks like Athlete's going to be denied again! It seems like in these games, you kind of need some kind of insane micro plan to land the good wonders.
Anyone know or guess who is going to get GLib in this game? Whosit is desperate for it, but will someone else snatch it away?

GLib should be fairly safe for Whosit, no one else seems to be making a run for Literature, and AFAIK, no one has marble hooked up.
Also, Athlete needs to be hooking up that iron in Clak'dor's BFC: that's a 1/5 tile he could be working!
If athlete knew when he needed it, he could get the HG by chopping the deer's forest, and then whipping the HG. It would be expensive to do so, but a 3-pop whip = 45 hammers + a chop of 30h would save 7t.

I may be wrong ( probably am ) but I thought you could not whip wonders, only use great engineer to speed them up or chops.

Thanks
Reading it again I guess the third quote could be read as an insinuation that Sulla is weaselly himself, but that really wasn't the intention.
I have to run.

I wonder if you can float yourself by being a Switzerland faction and lending gold like crazy in a no tech trading game?
