RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

Darkmantle Wrote:I'm pretty sure Korea only survived because of Whoisits magnanimity. If Whoisit hadn't pulled the bunch I don't think they ever could have survived. The distraction of sending all those praetorians around to Spulla also helped Whoisit not push for another round of smack down.

From what I recall, Whosit left them alive so he could go off and take part against India, think them grabbing an island city made eradication harder than he could achieve with the other war.

Darkmantle Wrote:That said, I really want Korea to come back and do something awesome. Like raze Kathlete's capital during the Inca war. They may be planning to harass Whoisit, but I can't see that they have really built up enough units to be able to do a major offensive action. The best thing I can think for them to do is make enough show of force to stall the Incan war.

I agree! It would be fantastic, I'm really rooting for a big comeback event from them... thought they've done amazingly to keep going from a nasty looking situation... although, unfortunately, their gains are likely to involve crushing Whosit and I do enjoy reading his thread as well - a tough dilema! smile

That's a pretty sick food surplus. I'm usually happy at +5 but I guess that's early in the game where you don't have enough Workers to provide good tiles to work. Here they are recovering from a round of severe whipping and have a lot of incumbent tiles. Even so you can see they are occasionally scrambling to find a tile for a new citizen to work. That's not a bad problem to have smile.

Sullla Wrote:I've dialed down research to 20% to minimize overrun when discovering Civil Service; the reason is that we're probably going to go back and grab Meditation next, and there's a limit to how much you can overflow into a new tech. If we overflow more than the cost of Meditation tech, we lose the extra beakers!

Is that true?

Sullla Wrote:We are really killing everyone in GNP now, but it still "looks" like we're not on the bar graphs, by virtue of avoiding 100% science. That's a handy little trick to keep in mind. I'm also glad that Kathlete's score is close to ours, so that others don't perceive us as a runaway team. But I like our chances moving forward from this point! nod

I remember Spullla got criticized pretty severely earlier for running binary research with an academy and getting dogpiled. At least they learn from their mistakes. smile

No it isn't. There's no cap on beaker overflow.

Not to start this argument all over again, but how did Sullla know that other teams were noticing and making an issue of Sullla's GNP position?

He doesn't necessarily know - he could be applying his intelligence to figuring out how to avoid another dogpile.

Also, at the time of the CoW attack there were many spoilerish comments in their thread of the type "What did you expect when you're ahead so much in the demographics?".

ignoring the spoilerish comments issue, im sure atleast Jowy mentioned it afew times as a reason for the dogpile earlyer in diplomatic comunications between them and india, not to mention i think other players have said it to them too.
(i have tryed going through the spulla thread to find quotes, however im afraid i got crushed under all the waffle before i could find it rolleye

I recalled a mail from DMOC which laid out HRE's reasons for joining the war against India. Even managed to find it:

http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showpost....tcount=469

But it was a draft that was never sent...

Know there was a lot of talk from other teams about alarming Spulllan GNP. Perhaps DMOC/someone else mentioned it in chat/mail?

Wonder if someone could ask how Sullla found out in their thread? Would that be rude? Would it be spoilerish?

Yes it would be spoilerish. Just log the incosistancies here, nothing more anyone should do until and unless concrete evidence is ever uncovered.

FWIW, I don't think Spullla have been given any spoiler information, and I will always give them the benefit of the doubt until and unless there are good reasons not to.

Which all things considered is pretty ironic, but there you go.

I don't believe that this 'new economic strategy' by Spulla was the result of spoilers.

I would think that if it were because of spoilers, they wouldn't make a phrase like that, especially in the current climate. I put it down to the experience of one dogpile!
