RBP2 Lurker Discussion Thread - No Players!

I'll admit my possibility for bias up front -- I played in several RB-sponsored succession games with Sullla and Speaker during Civ3's glory days. I like both of them as people and players. That said, I'd make the exact same post in support of any of the other players/teams if they were subject to the same treatment Spullla have been receiving lately.

I am writing to express my concern and disappointment at the subtle (and in some cases direct) comments about Team Spullla possibly having access to spoiler information from sources other than their discussion thread. Unless someone has clear proof of such misdeeds, they should keep their opinions and insinuations to themselves. Like the all-too-oftenly and undeservedly played "racist" card, even the most indirect and unsubstantiated of allegations of cheating can stain someone's reputation beyond repair. Please think before you post.

I don't think this matters. The comments in their thread are good enough for them to change their gameplay/diplo. Some comments made are the GNP comment above and the "your diplo msgs are stiff" comment in the thread. Unless someone confesses to giving/getting a spoiler PM there is nothing to talk about.

Well, it looks like the Whosit/A4L attack will go on though. I do not like A4L being passive-aggesive by not talking back to Whosit. Whosit/A4L might get so many cities that they might give them away.

I really do need to get laughed at for saying that they would give away cities on this map due to the high fees. Silly me. They might trade some old cities and keep the ones they get by Slaze. This move would only be possible due to Slaze's poor gameplay.

I'm not sure this is fair - or maybe you're just reading into things differently than I am, but I don't think there is any real criticism to S+S over the spoiler issue. IMHO all of the criticism has been directed at the lurkers who may have given the info the to Indian team.

I wasn't trying to imply that anything funny is going on. Sorry if I left that impression, nothing could be further from what I was thinking. Damn typing and losing the exact meaning of what you say.

FWIW, agree with Reagan's second paragraph - pretty much sums up how I feel about the situation.

@Krill - I was more thinking of clearing the air with their own words, rather than a lot of speculation. However, I thought it might be spoilerish. Thank you for clarifying.

Not to single you out, but posts 1681 and 1683 are really good examples of the types of statements that prompted my comments.

Sulla was regularly commenting on how much they were running away with the GNP graph in their thread, before the attack. Considering that Whoisit was prepared to build 4 galleys and send troops across the map to attack Spulla, I don't think it takes a genius to workout that running away with a particular graph is a bad idea. Sulla and Speaker are geniuses and know they don't want to appear too strong again. At least until they are too strong that they can beat just about 3 opponents.

Jowy at least realises that he is doomed and Spulla can't really a way without lying, to not tell him that.

Edit:

I have 96 gold, am on 0% research generating 60 gold and will have priesthood in 6 turns.

Spulla are running completely away with this game, the other teams just haven't caught on yet!

What does everyone think about Sullla's last minute thought to save the GE for rushing a wonder (like Pyramids) instead of bulbing Machinery (Sullla said that it would only take them 6 turns to research the tech)?

Honestly, I don't think nabbing the Pyramids is worth it -- TGLib would be the one I would consider, but they are 2 techs away from being able to nab that. Sure, it may "only" take 6 turns to research Machinery, but that's 6 turns of Mace production they are losing out on. Plus there is the whole surprise factor for Jowy: not that he can do anything but build HA's and/or cats to counter those maces but they are missing out on the surprise factor if they choose not to bulb.

But maybe jowy is in such a weak position that it doesn't even matter?

Great Library has already gone methinks. Whosit nabbed it a few turns ago.

I think The Pyramids in most games is worth it economically but Maces when global war is about to break out is probably better overall.

Firstly Jowy seems to be suggesting giving away some of his military to Kathlete!!!! If he does that he's doomed!!!

Secondly Spulla are already doing very well economically without it!

They can probably build Pyramids fast enough that if they want it, they could just build it. Only problem is that they are commited to HR for the happiness needed, which decreases the value of every other civic. They'd have to put some serious thought into how to abuse either PS or Rep, but with an empire that is mostly grass land, and slaving for production...nah.

Same with Hagia Sophia, or Notre Dame (don't underestimate a free +2 happy for the rest of the game), they could be useful, but with stone and OR/Forges, they can get built quickly enough. Angkor Wat cold be useful if they really wanted that Shrine, but again it is a stone wonder.

It would probably be best to just save it and use it for an immediate golden age if they needed to swap civics, or rush Taj, or to bulb guilds if they needed knights (6 turns for Machinery, 6 turns for Fued, then about 1 or 2 for Guilds). Or rather, that is probably how I'd play it...
