Politics Discussion Thread (Heated Arguing Warning)

But I'm by no means an expert in the subject. The good thing about Hart is that he tries to explain law without taking it out of context from how societies experience law, so it's pretty appropriate for the current discussion.

We can summarise Hart as follows: there are mores, and in some societies (particularly the Anglo ones) rules enshrined into written code therefore approach the status of mores.

Which would imply that the mores matter, not whether they are in written code (aka. law) or not.

This may be one source of miscommunication (albeit it's clearly not the major issue at stake) -- when speaking of law above, I do not necessarily mean a written code, I mean norms which are established, recognized and enforced, regardless of the mechanism. Certainly in general "law" does not equal "written code", otherwise Code of Law wouldn't be a thing smile

Wow, very nice discussion!  A bit too abstract for me to contribute, but I'm certainly following with interesting popcorn.

Does anyone care about fpö entering government?

The last time an EU country went for a right+far right coalition was Viktor Orban, and in 7 years he turned his country into a xenophobic hellhole. So yeah, I'm worried about Austria.

Both our president and the leading party are strongly pro-EU. Furthermore our economy is strongly export-dependend so the big money has no intereset to become a paria wwithin the EU. Not to mention that the övp is not really a right party .

The bigger problem for us Austrians will be that the fpö has no competent people to fill the jobs they will get during negotiations.

The big money in the US has no interest to become a paria in the world yet Trump is going full speed in that direction. Don't expect the far right to do rational things.

I totally agree with you! This is like even best marketers needed help with marketing writing !

POTUS can do alot of things by himself and try for a lot more with the support of the majotrity of Rep behind him.
The FPÖ OTOH is 3rd placed party now and can only reach govermental position by working with a bigger party.

Our far right party has a lot of 'We are against the reigning parties' -votes. Once they join the goverment they will lose a lot of those votes. Like they did during 2000 -2006. In the year 2000 the FPÖ (then led by Jörg Haider) joined goverment. In 2002 the party imploded because of the difference of beeing opposition and having the luxury to whine about everything and having responsibility. This led to a new general election in which the FPÖ got cut down to 1/3rd of their previous votes. Then it split - those loving the nice cushion of govermental positions formed the BZÖ which during time lost more and more influence and is now extinct. The other are now back to the power of 2000.

But isn't the FPÖ asking for the ministry of foreign affairs ?
