Pangaea of some description is fine, so long as it's interesting. Continents style map... isn't. Archipelago is right out/holy hand grenade
I'm here for you, Krill.
I like the proposed pick method (perhaps decide ties based on reverse turn order). I like interesting Pangaea (I consider the PBEM 3 map an interesting Pangaea, for example), checked for interesting and reasonable balance.
Mayhaps we can help ourselves to a forum?

I would recommend using a priority choice system for the civ picks similar to the suggested one but with a slight change: it's resolved by picking a player at random, giving them their first choice, then picking another player at random, giving them their highest remaining choice and so on.
The advantage of this system is that you're always best off listing your picks in the true order you rate them. In the other system it can be an advantage to, say, put your second choice ahead of your first choice if you think your first choice is going to be heavily contested.
I'm happy to help out with the mapmaking too.

It's not a bug it's a feature!
Which is worse: having your choice delivered by a dice roll, or having to be shrewd about your preferences and gameplan?
Plus in Diplomacy (where this originates in part) you have 7 players picking from 7 choices. Not 5 players from 20-30 choices. I am not envisioning complete conflict in choices.

Resolve in reverse turn order is best, and randomize who is player 0. This then uses both systems, just don't say who is player 0 until after civs are picked.

However, I have no fucking clue how to set up Play Your Damned Turn so I'm not player 0. And I want a new forum please.

I recommend using a password when setting up the game, otherwise random people will join.

I like the pick method. I‘ll give you my pick thoughts once the forum is up and you have a thread started

Are we banning Scythia, Sumer and Rome? Or is Rome considered fine these days?
