So it's actually a case of just having the stack in position ASAP and Plako accepting peace with Gav is the only thing stopping an implosion. The more I think about it, the more I agree. Defense is favored in civ, but not by enough to survive a 2v1 against competent generals with UU's, when they both start above you in Power and have more production on top. Comm's iron v iron trade to Gav should give Gav the confidence to stay at war, I think. And plako ought to take long enough to die to let Commodore get a decent piece of the spoils, especially since he's bringing galleys.

Gav would be wise to sit on 2.5 civs worth of land and play builder for a bit than try and fuck about with Commodore. You let him sit in his play pen and don't piss in his cheerios and he won't do anything to annoy you.
Should, yes. Will he? I don't see any way to know except to wait and watch.
I can't help think of the war you and Gav fought in PB27. It wasn't really a good idea for either of you, but that was only clear from the omniscient perspective.

PB27 was...my fault. I don't think Gav had any outs at all once I dropped the culture bomb, but yeah, it's a good example of him following a strategically poor plan to the pyrrhic end.
However, you are actually too right. It's almost an exact replica in terms of astro bulbs, new world landmasses, Gav having a power advantage with old units and his opponent at geographical disadvantage if Gav wins his new war.
So it'll be a fight to the death.

He always had the option of allowing you to claim an 'unfair' portion of the spoils.

Yeah, that's my fear. I'm not convinced anyone can agree on a 'fair' distribution of the spoils with Gav, at least in an AI Diplo game. It's hard enough to agree on what's fair when you can talk. Doesn't help that there will be differences in casualties and power levels and neither of them can see all of plako's land yet.
Especially since new uncultured land with a wounded army is likely to produce a scenario where, as you put it, "he thinks he can take something, he will remain and war to take it even if strategically it's not the best idea". It's going to be hard enough to take land from Plako, let alone to simultaneously keep a defensive posture against your 'ally' strong enough to prevent temptation.

Man, it's a good thing this is happening in a Pitboss where all the combat happens on Caledorn's server. Otherwise someone would already be trying to make a quasi-statistical argument as to why this is impossible without cheating, which ignores the denominator of all the combat happening in the game that's coming out as expected.
Normally I prefer PBEM but I have to admit this is an unambiguous benefit for Pitboss.

The only lucky battle was the spear. The rest are normal. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't. So long as the strategy is sane there's Nothing to worry about.

GermanJoey has really unbalanced the game at this point. OT4E is going to walk into his capital in a couple of turns.

I'm not sure I understand Gavagi exiting the Plako war right when Commodore gets in, especially after he said in his thread that he hopes Commodore joins. He didn't report what happened next, so maybe Plako forced him out... I'd think it'd be worthwhile to take another chunk of land while the assist is there. Maybe the concern was that Commodore would get more of the spoils, but in a large game, that still seems worthwhile for him. Maybe he simply can't afford it right now.

I think he just went after a pleasingly 'clever' play, luring Commodore to fight and then exiting with minor losses and assured gains. But it's really small potatoes, and of course Commodore can bail just as easily. Probably not the best play.

It cost him all good will with commodore, that's not clever.

I think OT4E has the capital. The CR3 axes he has should break whatever units are left standing after a round of Numids hits every unit in the city, the rest are cleanup.
