Isn't Athlete holding the turn so that he can play at the same time every day? Why is that bothering Speaker? How is Athlete getting any unfair advantage? As I see the clock game discussion happens a lot in Spullla’s thread mostly regarding how to game it to get unfair advantage.
Some of the historic events are:
1)They hold the turn when they thought Jowy is going to declare the war. They did this to get second half of the turn. There was a big argument then also.
2)They moved at the last second to get their army into Jowy’s lands. This they did so that Jowy could not slave units during second of the time.
3)They talked about moving in the last second into Atlete’s lands. Would it be legal if they declare war and move units in the last second, instead of what they did now?
(I am not a big fan of Spulla, not after this game. Their actions and writing style drastically changed my opinion of them. Hence take my opinions with a grain of salt.)
Hey speaker, you can’t touch me here:neenernee ...
Edit: Unlike the post in Spullla's thread, this one is intended to be inflammatory.

Neither are, but my understanding was that Athlete whipped the city after the turn rolled, so he didn't get the janissary in time to defend? If he did get the slave down in time, then no problem, Spullla broke the rule but Athlete didn't lose out, but if Athlete didn't get the slave in time, then Spullla get the advantage and a reload is needed there.

but if they want to resign over this, then let them. Its their loss.
Well if they do resign, I could think of a team that would be willing to give the Ottomans a pounding

I think what has always bothered me about Spulla (and don't get me wrong it's a "love to hate" kind of feeling) is their righteous indignation and insistence that they are always in the moral high ground and that other teams could never possibly have a valid point of view for argument. And the unspoken assumption that they deserve to get everything their way. When they see an opportunity to game the system, they will do so with as much ruthlessness as they can, and when other people use the rules in a way they hadn't anticipated it's cheap and cheesy and it makes the other players snakes or weasels or not players to be respected, or the rules are just ridiculous.
Unlike others here though, this makes me love following this game even more!

I was just going to say the same thing! I would certainly not mind taking over India's current position.

Athlete did not get the slave in time.
Speaker's point is that Athlete would not have gotten the slave anyway. Speaker thought Athlete was not allowed to slave. That thought was incorrect. But Speaker could have denied Athlete the chance to slave anyway by playing at the last minute on the clock. Speaker is arguing against the rule, not against this particular situation.
Sullla did move units when he was not allowed to by rule (with under 2:00 left after having started to move with 4:00 left). But no harm was done there since Athlete didn't log in in the interim anyway.
Despite the arguing, what happened was what should have happened anyway. I think a reload would hurt and confuse the game more than it's worth now.

I disagree - Athlete was working out how to get a caravel because Spullla declared, then they blind sided him with the unit move at the end of htt turn, amphib style.
