If Athlete had left a trail of token defenders, I'm sure that Spulla would have made a post brimming with and decrying the vast howling stupidity in leaving one's defenders to die piecemeal, when all true civ players know that saving strength for a final, climactic battle is the pro l33t stratagem.

I doubt it. Didn't they complain that their maceman didn't have good odds attacking Jowy's last city defended by an archer - that actually defending makes a difference even at that tech disparity.
Speaker and Sullla's comments don't always leave a flattering impression, but I do appreciate their willingness to post their honest thoughts even when they reflect poorly on them. I don't get the impression at all that they are just trying to be mean. Speaker has directly said what he thought Athlete should be doing instead. I often don't agree with them but it's a lot easier for me to spot biases looking at the whole picture.

From the onset SPulla was the odds on favorite to win this thing. That is what the 5-1 was all about. Athlete has a chance (like Eric the Red said) to at least whittle them down a little. By pulling back, he is leaving their army intact for future wars, giving them an even bigger edge.

Because they aren't in caste? Otherwise you can just run artists, but I honestly don't know if they've stayed in slavery or not.
Erick the Red Wrote:Air and naval power are alternative ways to bombard cities, it's relatively easier to flank away an attackers siege units, etc. Also, four defenders are enough that siege units can be spent to efficiently kill them.
Air and naval power were largely non-issues. We took perhaps one city using frigates to bombard defenses and used airships for maybe 5 total flights. You're correct about the second point.

Ouch. Odds on from turn 1? Even if my team wasn't in the game, I'd have taken that bet in a heartbeat. Maybe not even after T50, but on T0 I can hardly imagine a team of odds-on favorites when diplo is allowed.

I thought they were in slavery; if they are in Caste then yeah, not much point in Sistine.
T1 they had pretty solid chance...they moved for the cow.

I'm definitely interested to see Nakor vs Dantski - hoping that might be an interesting fight.
Rifles, cannons and no 2 movers - going to be a different war?
Also kinda curious what Spullla meant when they said they'd spent Dantski's gold - I assume they're not planning to rob him of a few hundred G and that he will get his rifles?

Maybe they intend to give him freshly built rifles instead of upgraded ones.
