HRE saw that Spulla was planning to do something because they did not end their turn. A rational player would never end his turn because it just gives everyone else more information. Another bonus is that people tend to get bored by the game. This makes them play weaker as the game goes on.

It had him spamming happiness buildings/jails and switching to Police State while trying to get a culture victory.
Sure, he had WW issues, but in a war of that scale he would have had them anyway. By the time SoZ becomes a factor players have the tech to reduce WW to zero. As a deterrent it's about as effective as Whosit's MDP.
I have to run.

I saw this post in the HRE thread, doesn't this violate the lurker conduct?

After all, Jabah is pointing out something that HRE did not know and hence hadn't thought about...
I guess that makes it up for some of the Spullla thread lurker violations

As a deterrent it's about as effective as Whosit's MDP. Still disagree slightly, think it's much more effective than the MDP.
But I take your very good point in bold about being able to counter SoZ/WW later on.

If they had 'retreated' for tactical reasons I would not have commented, but since the explanation was based on a wrong understanding of the game mechanics...

Sullla Wrote:Also, about the research: we've nearly completed Scientific Method tech. But we don't want to discover it quite yet, as it will obsolete all of our AP monasteries. Instead, we'll first research Democracy (should take 4 turns swapping between 40%/50% science) and then run min science to top off Scientific Method. Then we can rush Communism in 2t of 100% science (at massive deficit) and pop our Golden Age to swap into Uni Suffrage/State Property. Why not just rush to Communism and get Democracy after that? Because every town produces 2 shields/turn under Universal Suffrage + Golden Age. That's an extra 20 shields/turn (base) in cities like Gettysburg! Definitely worth it.

Since we can comment on lack of understanding of game mechanics I guess it is ok for me to point out to Spullla that the currently built monestaries will continue to give them AP hammers (and science and gold from Sankore and Minaret [if they had built it]) until those wonders obsolete....

Kristian95, no they don't. When monasteries go obsolete when Scientific Method is discovered, they lose all of AP hammers, Sankore beakers, Spiral Minaret gold, and Sistine Chapel culture. They continue to provide only two effects: the 2 base culture and the ability to build missionaries of that religion.
