[PB69] Lurking the dreams of summer

I'm surprised you both think Mali is one of the weakest even with all that food. Get 1 boat, get a worker and chop away.

Oh, I thought Khmer was unchanged for resources. Maybe I misunderstand your writing. In that case, I would leave it the same and keep things as you have in the picture.

I don't think Mali is terrible, but it's not great. Crabs are grim without a lighthouse, and it's a lot of hammers for the early game.

Sorry Tarkeel was asking about Khmer moving. They are unchanged.

I have to say I tend to look at capitals beyond T50, which I know not everyone does and there Mali's is clearly just so far ahead.

I'm off for the night, so feel free to shoot opinions on it.

What map script are you using for these maps?

I'd just go with the island tiles changes and the Spain resource changes.

All the other starts had a 5 food tile. These lunatics wanted random, give them random. They are all kind of playable but some are rough.

Parallel of Mali should go Sailing second and an early lighthouse though, and get the workboat out afterwards...

Same as PB64; tiny tectonics 30% water.

Its one of the few map scripts that creates east west connections naturally. I noticed this time around that more of them did than with 6 players. Last time I think 2/10 did and this time I think like 7/10 did. I originally had 4 maps saved for consideration. The script also isn't dirt poor on resources; HOWEVER, even on the "wet setting" you notice its dry anywhere not on the coast, but as they seem to want pain and suffering that is actually fulfilling the request. I'm still on the lakes ftw, but these people want pain.

I missed the Celts.

I have been thinking bit more about Spain though. Assuming the fish was second ring and it have a grass cow I think I would revert to original start and then add a sheep on either a grassland, grass hill or plains hill tile. Leave it up to random.org to decide which tile.

I figure that even with the plains hill tile it's a worse start but giving it the extra 5 yield tile would just make it a bit more in line with the others yet keep the ethos of random shit happening. Its also only 1 change as opposed to two if that matters.

Along those lines changing a Celtic clam to a fish to ensure the 5 food tile would also be enough. The two starts would be comparable: grass cow coast fish 7 forests one grass and one plains hill but Celts have fresh water and 8 grasslands versus 6 grasslands and more plains hills so claim and lake versus a random sheep tile seems fair to me. And it really is the random factor that makes this work, Spain start with grass sheep is probably better than Celts which would be better than Spain with a plains hill sheep.

Thanks, I am struggling to roll interesting SP maps and will try this

If you are just doing single player maps I recommend the 60% or 70% water options for tectonics. I used to play A LOT of single player and that became my default as it produces some interesting looking maps. I only went with the 30% water here for balance purposes.

So do people think adding a resource is better than changing one / moving another? My gut is to just leave Celt and Spain as is.

I liked the landform generation from tectonics but disliked how heavily it weighted wind-blown moisture to determine if temperate land ended up as plains/grass. The "rain shadow" effect from all the coastal peaks it generates is too much. I ended up tweaking the map script years ago. Also, the "no ice" option doesn't affect plains/grass generation at all, it just turns polar ice into tundra and tundra to grass.
