I'm still amazed I was able to follow instructions to get civ running on Linux.
On a slightly related note, I wonder if it's possible to play civ "blind" a la chess.

Oh no. Commodore is to the direct east of the southern core. This is going to get very nasty, very quickly.

I am playing this game with so little planning, and you can tell. I triggered a GA this turn because, hey, I think I can get to Mercantilism by the end of it, not like it matters that Commodore has 3 times my power, no other threats to win the game, Astronomy and a solid sand box.
I am so dead, but it's kinda fun not planning anything except dragging this carcass to Banking (FIN BANKS!! REP AND MERCANTILISM!!!) and then to just whip every pop point I have into Crossbows and pikes after the GA. I'll be building castles during it! Fantastic economic building, castles. They are like the anti-forge to anyone that doesn't like you.

I suppose I should say that my second city is still size 6 and lacks the food to grow any higher. The fact I'm #1 in crop yield and number of cities doesn't mean squat given I have no more than 3 cottages in play. Even Merc won't do much than help clear out the old techs I'm missing, The only way this civ could win is if it was ignored for another 50 turns and Commodore doesn't make any military move in any direction.

If anyone wants an update after the GA has finished, I need a volunteer to log in and take screenshots: You post them, I caption them style.

If you decide you want to do it, just post here and log in when it isn't my turn. Password is in the second post. Given you can't make any moves in a sequential game I can't even find a fault to lurkers logging in to create your own "State of the world" report.

Quick update.
Just finished CS, Paper due in 1, but will have less than 100 gold remaining. Will save gold whilst research Education and watch what is happening. short term plan is to get Seowon everywhere, that would get me to 450bpt base if in every city. I've essentially caught up to the back markers in Yuri, but still way behind Thoth, Commodore and possibly Pindi (I will know for sure next turn), although I am down the entire Music line (not that this amounts to much).
Commodore is one turn from Lib. If he takes Astro then I need a crash caravel whipping spree, but I'm in theo and vassalage, so with judicious harbour construction and a few forts I should be able to match caravel for galleon. He already has Nationalism so he should have Taj in the bag.
Thoth is three turns from Nationalism, need to be careful for a drafted army, but no one has gunpowder or Astro so we are all in a build fest which looks to turn quickly into war. OTOH, with the Yuri NAP who knows what happens. I'm 10 ish turns from a second great person for a second GA in hand if I need it, but my entire economy is built around whipping and free rep specialists so the GA will not do that much for me. Just growing pop and reacting at this point, but at least I can scout now.

Commodore just landed Taj and Lib, he has 33% more land than I do, he is up Education, Lib, Nationalism, the whole Music line and a shitload of wonders. Then again he has FDR so that's not unexpected. His capital alone has GL, HG, Sistine Taj and ToA (I think this might give Ottawa a run for it's money in terms of scale) and he is making 700gpt. I'm making 300, which is more than Pindi.
Pindi is down Paper and Theo on me, up Asthetics Lit and Alphabet. That's about even.
Yuri is down Calendar and Banking, but Alphabet, Aesthetics and Literature, again call that about even as he has 600 gold in the bank and beakers in something.
Thoth is about to finish Nationalism, and up Aesthetics, Lit, Drama and Philo, so he is about 6 yrusn ahead plus Nationalism...call it 12 turns ahead.
I'm happy to keep on playing, but if the other players want to call this I don't want to force them to play on, on my account. As it is I'm 4 turns from Gunpowder and privateers so I can try and defend myself, but he doesn't need to attack, he can win through corps fueling a space victory before we can get anywhere close to him. Or he can just go straight to Biology for Cereal Mills and Steam Power for Creative Constructions and force an invasion of him (lol) if he tries for a CV with Sistine.

No pictures, if you want them, get them yourselves.
Commodore has a choice to make. He doesn't need to invade anyone, but he probably should try and take over some more land to consolidate before he gets to corps. If he He already has 100 tiles more than me in second place, if he still has land to settle then this is almost irrelevant.
Essentially he can't attack Thoth, I don't know if he borders yuri but he probably does, and he definitely borders Pindi. So from my perspective it's a question if he wants to build a navy on his west coast which looks like it is an immature, newly settled area, when he also knows that I'm either one or two techs from privateers, and wants to fight into castles in an area which he knows I can simply whip into the ground...or go attack someone else. I reckon Commodore doesn't want to end the game too early, so I think he is going to attack Yuris. I don't think he can get all the way through Pindi due to a significant strategic depth, but then Commodore has Astro (Thoth 2 turns away, Pindi set research but is saving gold, Yuris isn't close) which enables straightforward flanking and threatening multiple cities. Yuri is limited in terms of city numbers so I think Com will take the "easy" win and just win from there (expecting he wants to play with the later era toys from a position of strength for once).
My plan is straightforward, I swapped back to Education (due in 2 more turns) and then Gunpowder. I don't need to draft, I just need to be able to whip boats at this point. then I'll aim for Astro, Chemistry and Steel in some order (although quite likely to grab Aesthetics and Literature at some point. I don't have many cottages, so PP isn't valuable, but I do want Rep Parts. However, Astro and Education give me the economy I need, so they get priority.
Commodore is one turn from Constitution, he is tearing through the tech tree like a bandsaw. I think that once his GA ends he will be up something like Nationalism (plus the pre-requisite techs), Constitution, Liberalism, PP, RP and Economics...and down Gunpowder, so something like 15K beakers to the good. Maybe if I could find a way to reach Democracy, somehow steal SoL, and use Emancipation to grab 50 "quick" towns I could catch up, but that ignores the significant land lead he already has. Short of a 100 tile continent just off my west this game is over.
