I've played it quite a few times but I tend to generate an enormous map and then I lose interest.

Well, last I checked there is a very serious cooperative MP community where they generate a map, discuss how to best exploit it, and then play for like a weekend and fill up the entire map with a huge rail network or whatever. It's quite insane actually.

played it quite a back in summer of 06 and were a active player in the coop MP scene back in #openttdcoop single digits

I always tend towards trying to make more realistic games rather than max trains/profit. Eg: ![]()
Trains (and to a lesser degree Bus stations) are way to big to handle realisticly ... even a 8lane station (quite common really in bigger cities ...Munich Central station is the biggest in Europe with 34 platforms + an additional 6 for U-Bahn) with junctions and the like, fills more than most cities in the game
