Sponsor: Sirian
Opening Date: October 28 Duration: Five Weeks Map Generation: Random,
with minor edits to ensure no lemon starts. Difficulty:
Emperor Civilization: RANDOM World Size: Small Opponents: Five
Barbarians: Roaming Rules: Standard Victory: All options enabled, each
player assigned specific victory conditions (see below). Special
Rules: You MUST sign up in the Sign
Up Thread to participate in this Epic. Why? Because you're going to have
your civ assigned to you at random, from a list of pregenerated games, based on
the order in which you sign up. You'll get a civ from these six possible selections:
Terrain,
Game A: Pangaea 70% water Climate, Game A: Wet, Rugged Terrain,
Game B: Archipelago 70% water Climate, Game B: Arid, Flat Scenario
Concept: Potluck was the most popular and most played Epic, and it's back!
With a twist, of course. Victory conditions will be assigned based on the civ
you randomly draw. Each of the five victory conditions will be assigned to a civ
trait. Each civ has two traits, which will determine which two victory conditions
that civ must pursue. There
are TWO MAPS for this Epic, two games to be played. You will play the same civ
in both games. Your civ must win its two victory conditions, one on each map.
Your choose which goal for which map, and in which order you tackle the two games.
If you like, you may load and examine each start before deciding which one to
play first, but you are required to play one of the maps all the way through before
you begin to play the other one. Militaristic
- Conquest Religious - Cultural Commercial - Diplomatic Expansionist
- Domination Scientific - Space Ship The
six civs for this epic are: Aztecs:
Conquest and Cultural Germany: Conquest and Space Ship Greece: Space Ship
and Diplomatic Iroquois: Cultural and Domination Rome: Diplomatic and
Conquest Zululand: Conquest and Domination I
had to avoid any industrious civs, and also try to avoid recently played civs.
I managed to come up with a mix that avoided the civs from Epics 15, 16, 17, and
still have each victory type assigned to at least two civs. That's the reasoning
for these selections. Please
note, with each game separately generated at random, for both maps, that even
playing the same civ, there will be some differences. Each game will have its
own random seed to start the RNG, so huts may pop different results, even on the
first turn. The five opponents are all the same, but they will be assigned to
each game in a random order, meaning that the civ that goes second in your game
may go last in someone else's game, and this turn order shuffle may affect things
in minor ways. Certainly your graphs will look different, with colors and civs
in different order. Yet with all this randomnity, each civ is assigned to the
same start points on each map for all players, which will make for a lot to talk
about come report day. The more who play and report, the more fun for all involved. "Play
the hand you're dealt" is the theme of Potluck. We hope you embrace the challenge.
Scoring: Victory through an assigned victory condition is considered a
Win. Victory through any other condition, not matching your pair of assignments,
is considered a Draw. Defeat is considered a Loss. Retirements or Incomplete games
will earn no score. Results of both games will be combined to determine your final
score. If
you are defeated, you need to play it out to the bitter end to determine the type
of defeat. If you are defeated by way of one of your two assigned victory conditions
(eg: Romans lose via diplo or conquest), then that's a Hard Loss. Losing by any
other means is a Soft Loss. Win:
5 pts Draw: 3 pts Soft Loss: 2 pts Hard Loss: 1 pt Incomplete:
0 pts Results
will be posted civ by civ, with comparisons made only vs others who played the
same civ. Tiebreakers will be determined by fastest combined finish.
Unlike last Potluck, where I revealed the map so that my own results could be
included, I'm leaving the maps a mystery here. I'll still play, but my results
will count only as a shadow. I have generated three dozen pairs of game files,
but will make more if needed. Apply in the Signup
Thread, and Griselda will email you your game files on Opening Day. Signups
will remain open until November 10th. Special
Thanks to CarbonCopy, who inspired the idea of "two games combined into one". Closing
