Various Tip Bits
Basics of GvG, Part 2 Wyrm - 13 Oct 2006
Last time we looked at what the main types of team builds there are for GvG. This time we're going in a different direction and exploring a few of the individual roles on the team.

Basics of GvG, part 1 Wyrm - 01 Oct 2006
I decided to take some of my own advice and use the website a bit more. So I thought a good (and easy) place to start would be with a short series of short articles on GvG, since the guild is getting into that more and, more importantly, having fun doing so. This first part describes the basic types of teams you're going to be up against.

Basically, I'm going to be taking some of the highlights from the GvG topic on the forums and expanding on them somewhat. Hopefully I don't fall flat on my face in doing so.

Primary vs Secondary profession with skill sets analysis Part I Drasca - 07 Feb 2005
What class combination do I want? What's good? Does it matter at all what I pick?

Yes and no. There is no combination which is truly gimped, but some are better than others to suit a certain playstyle. This post should help you with finding out what primary/secondary profession best suits how you desire to play.

Selection, and Targetting (v.503) Drasca - 02 Feb 2005
Guild Wars can't be played unless you can look around, find, and select what you need to, from yourself, your teammates, to your enemies. You may learn to run before you walk, but that is fruitless without knowing whereto go.

Here, I will discuss the basics of how to find reference points to orient yourself, and from there, protocol to find and announce your place among others as well.

There are pictures to illustrate my point here, but I've kept them reasonably small.

Assign hotkeys for party members SoulEdge - 10 Dec 2004
In the heat of battle, selecting party members for a quick heal, buff, or debuff often has to be done quickly. So assigning hotkeys is probably a wise thing to do. Keyboard setup is under the Options tab in Network Panel (default key = N).

Guild Wars, by default (as of December beta weekend) does not assign hotkeys to select party members. Since the current maximum party size is eight, I find that the F5 to F12 keys are just right for the job. F10 is by default set to log off, but a simple remap to, say, the "End" key will sort it out.

This way, pressing F5 will select the first member in the party list, F6 the second, and so on. So if one set Heal Other on 8, F5 + 8 will heal the first member in the party if s/he is within casting range, else the character will start running towards the selected member and cast the spell.

It may also be a good idea to join a party in a predefined sequence to ease buffing and healing, say, the tanks to join first, then the rangers, the casters, and finally the healers.

Not to forget that selecting a member and press space bar = auto follow. So if the leader is the first on the party list, F5 + space bar will make sure one is always following the leader. Just remember to press the space bar again (with leader selected) to auto follow whenever one has stopped running.
