  Suggestion: Armor Piercing as spell?
Posted by: occasionalplayer - June 29th, 2020, 15:23 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (1)

Has that ever been suggested? Would that not add some interesting flavor?
There used to be Eldritch Weapon, and I understand the reasons for its removal - but maybe proper armor piercing in a higher tier?

  Two realm strategies
Posted by: occasionalplayer - June 29th, 2020, 11:41 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (2)

I think some time ago, nice spell combos were listed.
However, what do you think are overall the "nicest" two realm combos?
It seems to work well with 8 books total (4 each) and then retorts.

Like: Omniscient, Cult Leader, Alchemy, some other 4L 4 C and then with heavenly light and magic market, each town will produce 14 at the beginning of the game.
Life and chaos also combine well for mid game strategies.

For high men, Life/Death Omniscient Cult Leader could also work nicely (buying buildings much cheaper).

Life sorcery is also strong (like with omniscient sage master alchemy and maybe specialist or conjurer), especially with halflings.

Life/nature? Not sure, does not seem so synergetic - what do you guys think?

Nature/Death has some nice combos of course (Spiders/Fear; Bears/WraithForm/Resist Elements).

Nature/Sorcery of course the Focus Magic Cockatrices or sprites.

Nature/Chaos? any good ideas?

Death/Sorcery: can be quite nice/versatile, especially with dark elves/apprentices.

Death/Chaos: Seems strong for Warp Creature/Life Drain. Not sure about the rest.

Chaos/Sorcery? Not sure.

What are your thoughts? Which is possibly the strongest? How about 12 books three realms?

Question Is the MOO2 like 'Interstellar Space Genesis' game any good?
Posted by: Blake00 - June 28th, 2020, 06:47 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (5)

Just like Jeff's awesome Dominus Galaxia I've found yet another love letter to Master of Orion except this one is more MOO2 like! Has anyone here tried Interstellar Space Genesis? If so was it good? Was it stable? Apparently the indie team behind it consists of only 2 people haha! It looks pretty awesome so am thinking about trying it out now that it's finally on sale (it's normally pretty pricey lol).

  Night Stalkers
Posted by: Seravy - June 19th, 2020, 06:51 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (3)

Quote:By the way I remember I was thinking a lot about one particular part of Night Stalkers : their Cold Immunity. There is literally nothing in the Nature realm that can do anything about a Night Stalker at Uncommon tier, unless the player is willing to risk losing the entire unit to the gaze attack and deal damage that way. You can web it but even if you do, you can't actually hurt it at all.

Maybe removing the Cold Immunity and adding Non-Corporeal instead would make more sense. (The problem with that though is the unit becomes able to move at speed 3 on the overland map. In combat that's actually fine as it makes the unit more usable on rough terrain but on the overland map, faster Nightstalkers likely isn't a good idea as they are a "strong early" unit. Although, invisible AI nightstalker stacks coming from the sea would be scary... this is an idea worth considering!)

Additional though : but Nature can counter them with Petrify which is a fairly early rare spell while Night Stalkers are late uncommon. So maybe they are good as is, idk.

I'm not a big fan of the vote.  I signed up for blood and gore and guts and veins in my teeth, and losing the vote after putting real effort into a game isn't my idea of fun.

The app is called MooBumpYear and this is how I ignore the vote and continue my game.

When the vote happens and a winner is declared and you're asked if you accept the ruling - choose YES
Hit the ESC key
Choose CONTINUE
Save the game to the first slot - game1.sav
Run MooBumpYear
Load the game from the first slot - game1.sav
Turn off events if that's your preferred way to play

As you can probably guess, the app bumps the year forward by one.  Since votes happen every 25 years, advancing to the next year solves the problem, for now.  But as you probably know, the very first vote can occur on oddball years.  Bumping the year won't help you there.  What I do is accept the ruling, hit esc, choose continue until someone abstains.

No installation required. Put it in the same folder as Orion.exe, create a shortcut to it, and run it via the shortcut from anywhere on your computer.
