I suppose we should start a thread at some point. Especially since Dazed & Scooter started one as well. Speaking of; Dazed, Scooter, if you're reading this and the game isn't over, get lost :neenernee.
I'm suffering from civ V burnout, and I want to do some civ 4 action. It looks like it's been a while since a new PBEM game was started. Anyone else interested?
Yeah, yeah, this isn't technically a 1v1, but a 2v2.
Bob and Sareln are taking on Scooter and Dazed, and I wanted to claim the letter before another game started up...
Teams consist of Boudica of Zululand (the front civ), plus Izzy of Vikings (the back civ), on a small mirror map (snaky continents) joined together in 2 places by land bridges, with a couple of islands to facilitate early boating attacks.
Pics up later because I just finished it and I'm absolutely knackered. Damned night shifts.
Unfortunately the reason I am looking for a replacement is that my job has prevented me from giving this (or any other of my hobbies/fun activities) the effort they really deserve -> hence the blackout in my spoiler thread.
I'll try to correct that somewhat in the next couple days so a potential replacement could make an informed decision on whether they want to take over.
Since kyrub announced that he wants to try and add a new resistance system for Catnip 2.0, I think we need a thread for it!
I'll start out with a few options:
Table based
All resistance chances can be looked up in a table that we define as we like. First example I've put gives +10% chance for the first 4 crosses, then +5% for the next 6 crosses, then +2% for the next 5 crosses and +1% up to 95%.
Individual chances
Each cross has an x% chance of resisting the spell or effect. I've put two examples for x=10 and x=12.
I'd like to suggest the following two formats for tournaments:
Game of the month
This will be a simple game where we always compete for the earliest win with no extra victory conditions or rules. Or you can play it just for fun, of course. No real reporting is expected, except you're asked to make a standard report of vital game stats (such as hero list, city list an overview map) every 4 years. An unedited and randomly created game is posted each month, with a month to finish it. This is intended to give some easy, slightly competitive fun with minimal hassle.
Variant (might need different name)
This is modelled on the MoO Imperium games (go check them out if you haven't already) which use different rules for each game. You're expected to do a bit more reporting for this one (but ultimately it's voluntary, we can't exactly force you) with more screenshots. Victory conditions and variant rules will vary wildly, sky is the limit. This is intended to give variety and unique challenges for those who are into that, as well as the fun of reading and writing detailed reports.
There have been a lot of debates over Civ4's lifetime about what leaders and civs are completely overpowered, which ones suck, and everything in between. I was curious about the community's overall consensus on this, so I tallied up the civs and leaders selected in the various multiplayer games. I only used the games with no restrictions at all on leader and civ selection, which meant that PBEM1, PBEM2, PBEM3, PBEM4, PBEM5, PBEM6, PBEM7, and PBEM10 were all out for various reasons [for example, PBEMs 3, 6, and 7 had a 'No Fin/Phi' variant]. There were 5 remaining games [the three Pitbosses and PBEMs 8, and 9], so the max number any civ/leader can have is 5.
America, Arabia, the Celts, China, the Netherlands, Ethiopia, Germany, Japan, Khmer, Mongolia, Russia, and the Vikings were never selected.
The spread at the top is pretty predictable, although you would think that some civs such as England and Egypt [especially] would be higher, while Mali seems pretty over-rated.
There appears to be 4 tiers, Fin/Cre/Exp being the ubers, Phi/Spi/Org/Agg being the mids, Imp/Chm/Ind being the mediocres, and Pro being the loser trait that no one likes. I'm a bit surprised Creative did better than Expansive, I would have thought just the opposite.
Thoughts? This sure helped me, I know that in next game I'm going Willem of In[dia/ca].
